Yesterday, went on a downloading spree of free online Prog music, mostly directed by this thread:

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_po...TID=26187&PN=41

new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

My favorite so far is "~" by iamthemorning smile.gif

That thread is excellent.

I don't know if I found them in that thread or elsewhere but have you downloaded any of these? They're all great bands.

http://dtes.bandcamp.com/

http://thefierceandthedead.bandcamp.com/al...ng-to-morecambe

http://mattstevens.bandcamp.com/

http://lacoscienzadizeno.bandcamp.com/

What genres are they?

I just am not a fan of prog metal, or post rock, or anything like that. confused13.gif

Either way, I will give a listen to each later. yes.gif

Dream The Electric Sheep and La Cosciencza are pretty much typical prog rock. Matt Stevens has 3 instrumental albums - 2 of them are just acoustic guitar (heavily layered) but they're pretty proggy. The Fierce and the Dead his main band. They are also instrumental. They're kind of a cross between prog and post rock. They don't really sound like the typical post rock band so you may like them.

I finally got around to picking up the brand new album from Steven Siro Vai: The Story of Light. I have it in my hands now, it's the CD/DVD digibook edition which looks very flashy. smile.gif It's still in it's cellophane shield for the moment but don't you worry Rush fanatics I'll break it out wery, wery soon!

Bought these recently...

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (2CD Remaster)

Children of Bodom - Holiday at Lake Bodom

Coheed and Cambria - The Afterman: Ascension

Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

I started listening to Coheed and Cambria recently, and based off of those two albums, I dig it. I'm gonna need to listen those albums again and go deeper into the songs, but I enjoyed them a lot.

Newest Neal Morse release called Momentum.

It is fecking awesome! Maybe his very best? Thoughts part 5 is crazy!

Highly recommended! default/653.gif

Still need this one. I've heard 2 tracks from it - the single edit of the title track which did nothing for me and Thoughts Part 5 which was excellent (though still not as good as Parts 1 & 2 imo). Can't wait to hear Thoughts Part 3 on the new SB album.

Got these 4 for $30 on iTunes today default/biggrin.png

Mike Oldfield - Incantations

Gentle Giant - The Power and the Glory

Beardfish - Mammoth

National Health - National Health

Great choices! Haven't heard the Oldfield album but the other 3 are great. Mammoth is excellent. If you like that one then check out the new album The Void if you haven't already. Its mostly in the same prog metal vein of Mammoth but there's a bit more diversity. Note, Seventeen Again, and Ludvig & Sverker are my favorites.

I'll get around to The Void one of these days...

Jan Dukes de Grey - Sorcerers

Jan Dukes de Grey - Mice and Rats In The Loft

Patrick Moraz - Human Interference

Rick Wakeman - Journey to the Center of the Earth

Did you get the Journey to the Center of the Earth fanpack from Classic Rock?

I was going to... but then I just sort of forgot

No, it was an older, used copy. Still haven't listened it yet.

It will be interesting to compare the old version (which I've heard on Grooveshark) to the new, studio version when it gets released :)

Got these used vinyl yesterday:

Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed

Asia - Asia

Eagles - The Long Run

Supertramp - Crime of the Century

Ozric Tentacles - Sliding Gliding Worlds (reprint)

And these used CDs today:

Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed (save the hassle of ripping from vinyl)

Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

King Crimson - Beat

Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of Fire

I hit the jackpot :D :haz:

Amazon has the new Soundgarden download, King Animal, for $3.99. Couldn't resist (being a minor Soundgarden and major Audioslave fan). Listened to Been Away For Too Long on the way to work. It rocks, and I was struck by nice clean sound quality. Hooha!
