String Orchestra = Bad Idea

Might as well try going unplugged and wearing MTV shirts.

They're running out of novel ideas, plain and simple.

Yes- or sleeping! Missed that one!

I really don't like the idea of the strings. Case in point; a good song, ruined by the string section...

I am not a huge Kiss fan, but I always loved this song. But, every time I hear it with strings, I want to puke... 062802puke_prv.gif

Using the term "String Orchestra" is a bad idea....

Alex said two chellos and the rest violins. 8 people in the back of the stage. A Far Cry from an orchestra.

We either get songs like the Garden with triggers or the route they took.

I for one can't wait for opening night!

A better solution then adding strings would be to not play The Garden. A song sure to empty the arena.

Its a nice enough song, but nice songs aren't always concert material. In fact, most of the songs on alot of their records are not. That's not an indictment of the songs per se.

I love Entre Nous. Loved hearing it live because I'm a Rush freak and love the song. But my critical evaluation is that it was not a good concert song. It didn't translate very well live and the place went dead. The Garden will do worse because only us Rush freaks will have even heard it before and there is no nostalgia factor for it at all to help people overlook that it is not a good choice to play live.

I am still amazed at the tunnel vision some people have about the strings.

A small ensemble used sparingly in songs that are recorded with strings is completely appropriate and will add to the overall experience, not distract or damage it.

Some of you sound like little children being dragged to the symphony by your parents. Quit crying about it. Go and enjoy the experience and try to open your little brains to new experiences.

all i know is with the strings added to the show, i'm definitely looking at the setlist.

Does this mean that you'll consider not attending if there are too many songs with strings?

Or that you'll be taking one of your famous bathroom breaks during all the songs with strings?

i have a ticket that was bought for me already but i just want to know beforehand if they are going to be adding strings to songs other than the ones on ca. take for example neils big band part of the drum solo. i like big band music on occasion but i don't like big band music in neils solo.

Big Band music does not have strings.

Brass and reed baby! Trumpets, sax, trombone, etc.

I don't know. For ballads and strings, I hear Barry Manilow is on tour.

Thinking they will add strings to every song is crazy. They will use them on the CA stuff and that will be it. Come on guys and gals... biggrin.gif

they wouldn't do every song but this is from riab and was posted here already.

Lifeson says Rush will employ a small string ensemble, likely eight to 10 pieces, to recreate those pieces and to be added to some of Rush's older material. "It's just something different for us, and I can't wait to hear what it sounds like."

key words, and to be added to some of rush's older material. eh.gif
