CA: "Rush's 20th studio album"

In all the promo materials and reviews I have seen for Clockwork Angels, it is always described as "Rush's 20th studio album".

But is it really? It's only 19 by my count (unless you count Feedback - which I don't).

What do you guys think? Is this their 20th studio album? Do you count Feedback? confused13.gif

Didn't they record Feedback in a studio?

An EP does not count as a studio ALBUM

Why not? confused13.gif They made it in the studio. I don't think it matters that it's all cover songs.

Many bands of the past put out albums that were barely over 30 minutes in length.

Van Halen II = 10 songs, 32 minutes; Fair Warning = 9 songs, 30:58 ohmy.gif

Feedback = 8 songs, 27 minutes

"An extended play (or EP) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP."

In that case you may have to argue that ESL is a studio album...

According to whom? Wikipedia? rofl3.gif The Music Industry gods? confused13.gif confused13.gif

There is no official definition of an "EP". There is no official authority on what constitutes an LP or EP. The bands and their label companies call the albums whatever they want.

Try THIS: According to the rules of the UK Charts, a recording counts as an "album" if either it has more than four tracks or lasts more than 25 minutes. I got that quote from your Wikipedia.....

Yes, I count Feedback. More importantly, they count it.

Roadrunner says so anyway.

Here's an image I took from wiki a week or two ago:

Now if you go to the same page, they changed it:

Rush Discography Page on Wiki

There are tons of groups I love that have released EP's, and they are NEVER considered to be in the count when considering full albums by that group. NEVER. no.gif

Sounds like revisionist history to me in order to make it sound like a nice round number. A 27-minute EP of cover tunes is NOT the same thing as a full studio album of original Rush material. Anyone who says differently doesn't want to deal with the truth.

I changed my tune thanks to Goober.

It's a covers studio EP album but truly has nothing original on it.

It doesn't count but perhaps it should?

More like you can't handle anyone who disagrees with you. smile.gif smile.gif

FYI, Wikipedia is not the official authority on what is considered an LP or EP. Wikipedia is nothing. Posting some little snippet from Wikipedia is nothing.
