ShlappinDahBass
QUOTE (rushfan27 @ Jun 17 2012, 08:51 PM) Is alex's solo in the garden the best guitar solo he's ever had? Probably not the best. But it is for sure in the top 5 for me.
Xanadoood
Let's not get silly. It isn't even close to being the best. I find but rather uninspiring actually.
rushfan27
It is certainly up there. Think about which ones are better... La villa strangiato and limelight possibly but this one is amazing.
laughedatbytime
Freewill, TCE, Working Man, Necromancer in addition to those already named just off the top of my head Edited June 18, 2012 by laughedatbytime

av450
I'm actually very disappointed with that solo. With all the hype it got I was expecting more.
Gedneil Alpeart
Not a flashy or intense solo, but it emotes sincerely. There are a lot of others by him I like more.

Phantom
QUOTE (av450 @ Jun 17 2012, 09:10 PM) I'm actually very disappointed with that solo. With all the hype it got I was expecting more. I'd agree. It's good, but not what I was expecting when I'd first read all about it. Nonetheless, this song is phenomenal in my books.
Deckiller
It's not even my favorite on the album. It's alright in the context of the song, but The Anarchist has a kickass solo IMO.
SchemingDemon
QUOTE (ShlappinDahBass @ Jun 17 2012, 09:08 PM) QUOTE (laughedatbytime @ Jun 17 2012, 09:00 PM) Freewill, TCE, Working Man, Necromancer in addition to those already named just off the top of my head Red Barchetta! Mission, Kid Gloves, Between the Wheels, Cut to the Chase, etc. It's a great solo, but he has better. I'd say it's in the top 20 Edited June 18, 2012 by SchemingDemon
Slack jaw gaze
Depends on how you define best. If technical brilliance, probably not. If perfect fit to the music, then it's pretty close. The only two that really effect me in a similar way are Limelight and LVS.
Cyclonus X-1
I wouldn't even say it's the best on CA.
Snaked
It's an excellent solo but I don't think it stands up against Available Light, Between The Wheels or The Analog Kid (to name a few). Give it a year and then ask the same question and lets see.
GUP1771
Nope, he's had so many excellent solo's over almost 40 years that even though it's a great one, it can't overcome everything that has come before it. With that said, it's probably one of the best solos he's done since Counterparts. I personally think the solos from Clockwork Angels and The Anarchist are more "cooler" than The Garden (although The Garden definitely has the most emotion), so they are my favorites above The Garden, but this view may change over time. I know that may break from the majority opinion here on this forum. (The Anarchist's solo reminds me of the 80s, which was my favorite Alex soloing era, so that was a bonus to that song.) Ghostnotes
It's fitting for the song and very, very good but not his best.IMHO
alphseeker
good solo at just the right spot and but not close - many others mentioned are so much better - Nothing touches La Villa BTW is it just me or am i the only one that loves the solo in the Weapon? Snyder80
Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitar players, ever. To try and name a best solo is impossible. At least to me it is. The Garden is one of many good ones for it's own reasons.
HowItIs
Not his best but very, very good. Emotional and sweet - perfect for the song. And that, IMO, is what a solo is for: to live within and bring together the whole song.

It's definitely not just you. That's a fantastic solo. There are times I wish it got going earlier in the interlude, though.
Bone Roller
I don't know how to define "best" but I enjoy listening to it more than most of the others. I agree with lots of folks her that La Villa and Limelight are also both great. I like the solo in the GRden just as much.
