Steven Wilson's Third Solo Album

I'm not opposed, but not historically moved by that styling either. I mean, I like a degree of free-form, but I also like some degree of structure as well. I'm not too interested in long songs that just meander about (seemingly aimlessly) without a real sense of cohesion. If the songs have a cohesiveness both within a song and/or related to one another, I'm more likely to be turned on.

I'm also not really interested in rampant ambience either. I can survive a mood to get to a mood shift, but 11 minutes of heady whale fecking mood music isn't my thing.

Whatcha make of it so far?

I can't reveal my thoughts on it yet...

Wow, you hate it that much?

No it's not like that, it's all positive...

A lot of it is boring.

Really? I find none of this record boring at all. Even the longer songs seem to pass really quickly because there is a lot going on in them. Maybe that's just me though.

The gig was absolutely fantastic!

They played all of Raven, most of GFD, and the usual suspects from Insurgentes.

After a slightly tentative start the band caught fire rapidly and the playing went stratospheric. I wish I was going to Glasgow tomorrow.

Not for the non 70s Prog PT fans.

Thanks Tony! Thanks to you I just bought two tickets for the SW Fillmore Show in SF!! I can't fukking wait!!

I'm now fully addicted to this album. It took me four spins to inject it into my veins.

I just bought a Steven Wilson autographed cd booklet on eBay for 50 bucks. I love the title in the eBay header! It's better than the original title and all the seller did was leave off one letter!!

"THE RAVEN THAT REFUSED TO SIN"

Poe would be proud. JMO!

Did he do the hour of bass communion thing?

Yes.

Was it the same Bass Communion music and videos from the last tour, and was there another Bass Communion music at the end of the gig?

Dunno, I nodded off... ;)

Second night setlist!

http://www.setlist.f...d-1bdb0174.html

Looks like they decided to play a PT song after all! I'm very surprised by the Storm Corrosion song. I hope they keep it for the rest of the tour, even though I'm going to miss Remainder the Black Dog

Edit: Looks like the last encore song was outro music...I was so excited seeing it that I didn't think anything of the grey text..

I've been listening non-stop since I got my DE in the mail last week. I hear TONS of Crimson influence throughout. I even hear some parts of Red (the song) in Luminol. I love that they used the actual mellotron from ITCotCK! Nice touch!

So far...it ranks a very close 3rd for me, behind GFD. I think once I listen to the 5.1 mix a couple of more times, it'll move up on the list. IMO, this is the best surround mix SW has ever done!

Seeing them in Chicago but bummed that Marco Minnemann won't be on the US tour.

I bought this album out of impulse when it came out, and now that it's had some time to sink in, I'm at a loss for words! Some of the members here suggested I get a couple PT albums, I did, but I was really anxious to hear more of SW's solo work, so I bought Insurgentes. It might be a cliché to say every track is perfect, but I truly believe it is! The setlist seems amazing, I just wish they were playing at a closer venue, (I might consider swapping the August Rush show for a SW show ;) ). Long story short, I've suggested this album to so many people and they've all loved it!
