Natural Science I can see someone taking over La Villa, even though I wouldn’t.

The rest of them are inexcusable votes.

The Garden has 19 votes, and Working Man zero.

:laughing guy: :laughing guy: :laughing guy:

Working Man might as well be a Britney Spears song. Real fans don’t fall for that sellout sh*t.

Working Man, Spirit Of Radio, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisions...overrated radio-friendly pablum. I'd list my favorite RUSH tunes, but you probably haven't heard them.

Yet, In the End still has twice as many votes as Working Man? :eh:

High Water

Available Light

You Bet Your Life

Everyday Glory

Carve Away the Stone

Out of the Cradle

We Hold On

Man, that is a bad stretch of closing songs. No coincidence that stretch started with a Hold Your Fire song -- that's when they started releasing albums at CD length as opposed to vinyl length, which meant more filler tracks at the end of each album.

La Villa is the obvious choice here.

1. La Villa

2. Natural Science

3. Between The Wheels

4. Cygnus X-1

5. Working Man

reupping this

Dirk and Lerxst and the Prof (RIP) put a lot of thought into album closers.

Let's put some thought into their effort.

La Villa is incomparable, but it's too complex for a closer. Same with Natural Science.

Epics aren't closers.

A closer should be emotional -- it's a climax. Themes (both musical and emotional) are resolved, or at least summarized. Think Eclipse on Dark Side of the Moon, for instance. That's the ultimate closer.

By that metric, the ultimate closer is either

1) Available Light

2) Countdown

3) Mystic Rhythms

Just my two cents.

Those are three good ones. I'd ranks them AL, MR, and Countdown 3rd.

I know it matters a lot to many people, but I have never cared about the order of songs on a record.

Therefore the best song that ends an album is inherently the best closer.

Natural Science.
