As great as album-closing Rush songs tend to be, and as much as I love Working Man, La Villa, Natural Science, Vital Signs, Mystic Rhythms, and Everyday Glory, I think The Garden tops them all.

It touches deep emotions that no other Rush song ever has.

What do you think?

Nothing beats Natural Science when it comes to album closers. It's amazing how much people are overrating The Garden on here confused13.gif

I love The Garden, but there are many other closers that I love as well. It's a bit too early to tell where it would rank with this. I love Between the Wheels, La Villa Strangiato, Vital Signs, Available Light, Mystic Rhythms, and I enjoy Natural Science and Working Man too. Definitely need more time. smile.gif

It's definitely the best since at least Presto though, I know that.

Natural Science has that spot sealed up forever.

Mystic Rhythms is an incredible closer too.

Between the Wheels just edges out Natural Science and La Villa in my humble opinion  1022.gif  2.gif

Awesome song! 1022.gif IMO it is one of the weaker tracks on GUP though, so I couldn't choose it (however, GUP is my favorite album, so my standards are inflated way out of proportion).

No, I'll still stick with Between the Wheels. But Natural Science and Available Light are close behind. I love The Garden, but it doesn't quite match up with those for me.

Lets not forget "Something for Nothing" !

And, of course, right after I post this, The Garden finally hits me like a ton of bricks. laugh.gif

Oh well... Between the Wheels still does too.

Really hard to do this... Closers are disproportionately important to me. Rush has a LOT of great closers, and great in varying dimensions.

Great closers are not necessarily great Rush songs, but songs that inherit a profound quality simply by the fact that they are positioned to end the album. For example, I would never listen to Carve Away The Stone by itself, but conversely I could NEVER listen to the T4E album without listening to CATS; CATS BEGS to be a closer. Cygnus X-1 is arguably the most profound way any album has ever been closed. What a bewildering twist.

Album closers are - indeed - a psychotically cool concept. I'm excited that Rush especially exploits this idea, more-so than most bands.

I can't pick a "best" closer, so here's a neat list of a subject that is important to my Rush fandom, not ranked by the greatness of the song, but by the amount their quality is enhanced by being a closer.

Great closers =

Between the Wheels

Available Light

Carve Away The Stone

The Garden

Piss-your-pants-epic closers =

Lamneth

Out of the Cradle

Mystic Rhythms

Cygnus X-1
