Effects on the vocals would ruin the point of them.

He sounds like he is dying there. Effects would sure as shit have made it better for me. Smooth it out, mask the blatant flaws in the quality of his voice now. That vibrato sounds like a 90 year old man trying to sing, its awful. Anything to cover that up would definitely work for me.

Having not heard the song, I'll be willing to bet heavy that Geds voice is stripped to it's core and sounds raw and emotive rather then "horrendous" - I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

I value many of your opinions Trenken, but what constitutes good singing isn't one of them, no offense.

On an album of outstanding songs The Garden is a little less outstanding for me. I appreciate the sentiment and truth of the lyrics and think it makes a fine finish to the story but it just doesn't grab me. It should, it's designed to...but it doesn't.

On a album of not outstanding songs, the Garden is the only outstanding song...

Just worked it out on acoustic, It is already one of my most favourite songs to play smile.gif

What are the chords?

Its in D tuning and...

Beginning - G F C G (as you would do those chords normally)

Other part - Am C and then a run down from F to D (with the little dalada on the first string)

Done by ear so probably not 100% accurate trink39.gif

from the opening note in concert, this song is going to kill everyone there

how do you know it's going to get played?

I'd be willing to take the bet that this will be played.

Gorgeous song! I can see this vying for a spot in the top 10 Rush songs for me, and definitely one of the best (if not the best) 'mellow' Rush song.

I doubt that. It's a new song and it's a slow song so it might not go over too well. Anyone remember how bad of a reception The Larger Bowl got on the S&A tour? It killed all right, the crowd completely died during it. Don't be surprised if this song gets the same sort of reaction IF it's played live.

Couldn't disagree more, it's a modern classic...essential

In case anyone cares, here's my stab at the lyrics:

In this one of many possible worlds

All for the best, or some bizarre test?

It is what it is and whatever

Time is still the infinite jest

The arrow flies when you dream

The hours tick away, the cells tick away

The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes

The hours tick away, they tick away

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

In the fullness of time, a garden to treasure and protect

In the rise and the set of the sun, till the stars go spinning

Spinning 'round the night

Oh, it is what it is and forever

Each moment a memory in flight

The arrow flies when you dream

The hours tick away, the cells tick away

The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve

The hours tick away, they tick away

The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect

So hard to earn, so easily burned

In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture and protect

(It's a measure of a life)

The treasure of life is a measure of love and respect

The way you live, the gifts that you give

In the fullness of time, is the only return that you expect

The future disappears into memory, with only a moment between

Forever dwells in that moment, hope is what remains to be seen

Forever dwells in that moment, hope is what remains to be seen

In the fullness of time, a garden to nurture and protect

(It's a measure of a life)

(Repeat 4x)

It's a measure of a life

(Repeat 4x)

One of Neil's most universal and heart grabbing lyrics ever.
