Just hope that you're not on the receiving end of some "heroic" cop with an itchy trigger-finger some day. Because you're completely justifying the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality. You seem to want to celebrate it.

And the guy they killed wasn't a zombie. It was a human being. Not an innocent, of course, but still a human being. People need to stop acting like this is something out of a video game.

I'm reading this thread since we've been talking about these violent outbreaks at work this morning.

I guess you and I disagree on a lot of things, because if police don't shoot and kill a naked man eating a living man's face in broad daylight, who exactly does deserve to be shot?

Imagine being there and dealing with that situation. I can almost not think of any situation where someone is "begging to be shot" as badly as this guy was. Holy cow.

Nobody deserves to be shot and killed before at least considering other options. All this guy got was "hey, stop" and then death. If there was only one cop there I might be more sympathetic, but there were multiple officers and the first thing they did was shoot him.

You have to think at the same time they are trying to get to and save the life of the faceless victim...

Of course. But I've spent the past 4 pages trying (and failing, I guess) to explain why I feel they should have tried to restrain the man first instead of just killing him. If they had tried restraining him and it didn't work, then by all means, put him down. But they didn't even try. They do have other tools at their disposal.

Yeah. I haven't followed the story all too closely, despite my infatuation with cinematic zombies I find the entire story very sad and appalling.

Still though unless the po-po were calm and thoughtful enough and armed with tasers, I don't see much else they could reasonably do physically while ensuring their own safety. I'm sure we can agree that there was no talking sense into the guy...

All the training in the world couldn't prepare someone for a scene like that I am sure, and I'm neither surprised that the cops killed him or saddened that they did.

It doesn't change anything. That's emotion talking. The picture upsets you so you feel glad that the attacker was shot and killed. I hope you're not considering a career in law or have aspirations to be a judge eyesre4.gif

If that guy ate my face I would be a little bit more than "uncomfortable."

Wrong.

If "the world" wants to see it, the world can seek it out. We sure as holy hell aren't going to put it here.

Again, anyone with a miniscule bit of common sense and decency would know not to post that here.

Don't do anything like that again.

I'm only sorry I wasn't here earlier to take that picture down.

Zombie Apocalypse: CDC Denies Existence Of Zombies Despite Cannibal Incidents

Posted: 06/01/2012 11:15 am Updated: 06/01/2012 3:50 pm

The horrific face-eating arrest in Miami and several other seemingly subhuman acts has many people wondering what's behind this flesh-munching wave of terror.

A zombie apocalypse, however, is not what we should be worried about, at least according to the federal government.

Over the years the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a couple of tongue-in-cheek "zombie warnings," which really are just disaster-preparedness stunts. But on Thursday, the agency made it official: Zombies don't exist.

"CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms)," wrote agency spokesman David Daigle in an email to The Huffington Post.

Nevertheless, recent incidents in which humans reportedly ate human flesh have the Internet in a firestorm, with "zombie apocalypse" being Google's third most popular search term by Friday morning.

The zombie craze seemed to start with an attack in Miami on Saturday, when Rudy Eugene, 31, was killed by cops while in the process of eating almost the entirety of a homeless man's face off. The victim, Ronald Poppo, miraculously survived, but doctors are having a hard time figuring out how to put his face back together.

ZOM-BIE: n. also ZOM-BIES pl. 1. An animated corpse that feeds on living human flesh. 2. A voodoo spell that raises the dead. 3. A Voodoo snake god. 4. One who moves or acts in a daze "like a zombie." [a word of West African origin] - Max Brooks, "The Zombie Survival Guide"

Then, on Tuesday, 21-year-old Alexander Kinyua of Maryland allegedly admitted to dismembering his roommate and then eating his heart and brain.

Cops in Canada are also searching for a low-budget porn actor who allegedly killed a young man with an ice pick, dismembered the body and then raped and ate flesh from the corpse. Luka Rocco Magnotta is being hunted after he allegedly mailed some of the body parts to Ottawa. He's also accused of killing cats on video and posting the footage online.

Gawker fingered a "mysterious rash" breakout at a high school in Hollywood and other parts of Florida -- which hazmat and disease control teams still can't explain -- as further proof that zombies are taking over.

Zombie-like characteristics have been confirmed in the animal kingdom, just not in humans. A newfound fungus in a Brazilian rain forest -- called Ophiocordyceps camponoti-balzani -- is known to infect an ant, take over its brain so as to move the body to a good location for growth, and then kill the insect.

Yet Daigle dismissed "fictional viruses" like Ataxic Neurodegenrative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome, noting that other triggers have been alleged to cause zombie-like symptoms.

"Films have included radiation as well as mutations of existing conditions such as prions, mad-cow disease, measles, and rabies," he said.

But recently, some have found truth stranger than fiction.

"Action must be taken now before an outbreak!" an anonymous reader told The Huffington Post. "Zombies may be subdued by destroying the brain or removing the head. It is now your responsibility to prevent the apocalypse."

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that Gawker pointed out a rash outbreak in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. It's actually in Hollywood, Florida. We regret the error.

I'm not here to "argue" whether something like that has its place here, that's for the good MODs to decide.

In most forums however, given the length at which we are discussing this that linking to that content to not be that big of a deal. The big if is that things like that should very much be properly labelled to warn people, that is a pretty stupid oversight.

We are talking about some serious business here, and those photos perfectly describe how horrendous this attack was. This is one of about 4 almost equally disturbing attacks / cannibalism incidents in the past WEEK. Have you heard yet about the guy knifing himself and throwing his own intestines at the police?

Terrible stuff and the zombie theorists are having a hay day with this stuff, can't blame them really.

Ohhhh, here we go. The old "what if it was someone close to you" argument. Do you think this victim spontaneously appeared on earth one day and lived his whole life without friends or family? It may not have happened to someone I know, but it happened to someone that somebody knows (even if the guy was homeless).

And no, I like to think that if faced with a situation like that myself, that I would still have the presence of mind to be rational about it.

Lastly, people that use children or family as a sticking point ("BUT THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!") are usually either devoid of a decent argument or they flat out know they're on thin ice and they're desperate. What if it was your grandmother? What if it was your next-door neighbor? WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR DOG?!?! THINK OF THE DOGS!!!!!!!!11

Under the circumstances, I have no problem with the police officer shooting and killing the cannibal.
