Also, to call the 1980's a step backwards is ridiculous.

One step back is indeed rediculous. It was more like 5 or 6.

Of course, that is strictly my opinion.

Let's just chill out brothers. I'm seeing Styx at the flea market tonight - gonna be a rockin' time, reliving my glory days! Gonna drink plenty of beer too before socialist obama takes away our beer and guns and rock n roll! Edited by beherit

Dude! I agree with you on Obama but not on STYX!

I saw them headline with Kansas and Yes and Styx stole the show!

I actually thought that Kansas was better than Yes. That new lead singer is a fruit loop.

It's been four years. I think your precious guns are safe eyesre4.gif

As for Styx... it says a lot that they're playing flea markets instead of proper venues.

I had a feeling you were kidding around! Your flea market jab was filled with sarcasm. Nice!

You seem like a cool "New Edition" to the Rush Forum.

Welcome!

It's all about the "Grand Illusion!"

I couldn't be sure. It wouldn't surprise me if Styx was playing flea markets, to be honest.

While I think most of the best progressive music was released during this period, I have to say that jazz fusion had its "peak" almost entirely in the eighties while the proggers took a break.

Al Di Meola would be an excellent example however his best albums were in 1976, and 1978.

I do think that "Splendido Hotel" 1980 and "Electric Rendezvous" 1982 were also stellar though!

Stanley Clarke's best stuff was in the Seventies too. "School Days" 1976 is my favorite but I also love "Rocks, Pebbles And Sand" which is a 1980 record featuring the great young Simon Phillips on the drums!

I like the early-mid-70s jazz fusion the most - Mahavishnu, RTF, electric Miles Davis, etc.

It's a popular view that Al's best albums came out in the 70s but I don't agree, my favorites are World Sinfonia and Kiss My Axe. These albums are much more sophisticated, with better compositions and arrangements.

There's one problem with Rushgoober's 1969-1979 best era theory; his favourite RUSH album was released in 1982...

tongue.gif

actually, i'm more of a 1966-1978 guy.

AND, i recently changed my fave album from signals to hemispheres, so you can http://www.bufftalk.org/forum/images/smilies/icon_asskiss.gif

You sound like a 6 year old which means you're actually stuck in the 1940s!
