Test4VitalSigns
QUOTE (PuppetKing2112 @ Jun 25 2005, 10:47 PM) Can't believe I didn't see this thread until now...HUGE Floyd fan here...they were probably my favorite band before Rush. I have most of their albums...I'm missing a few I think. I don't know their whole discography but I do have the following: Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Interesting album, different from their later work, a lot more conventionally psychedelic. Ummagumma - I loved the live disc immediately...the studio disc is still growing on me, but there are some sections that I really, really like. Atom heart Mother - I'm sorry, this one just bored me. droning, boring stuff...nothing really happens at all. Obscured by Clouds - I like this one. Some interesting sections. Meddle - This was their first truly GREAT album IMO... Dark Side of the Moon - What can I say that hasn't already been said 2 million times? My dad has the vinyl, and he gave me the posters that came with it. I have them on my wall. Wish you were Here - This one is similar to Dark Side musically but I think I like it a little bit better. Animals - Great. The Wall - I'm sorry to everybody that is more partial to the earlier Floyd, but the Wall is probably my favorite Floyd album. the movie kicks ass too. The Final Cut - Very underrated. I know it's a Roger solo album technically, but I think it's one of their best. Momentary Lapse and Division Bell - I'm sorry, but I can't get into post-Waters Floyd. He was their main songwriter. These albums sound like the Pink Floyd Tribute Band, just like the Who post-Keith Moon sound like the Who Tribute Band and any of Axl Rose's lineups in the last decade sound like the GNR cover band. I don't dig it. But yeah, I still count these guys among my favorite bands. You're only missing Saucerful of Secrets, Relics, and soundtrack for movie More...all interesting albums...I love the song Biding My Time on Relics..been playing it alot lately. Saucerful is very psychedelic, especially the title track and Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (You heard/seen them in the Pompeii movie )....along with Relics you need to get "The Works"; another compilation of singles and the like...both worthy albums imo... You're also missing the live albums in post Waters era (pulse and thunder) but since u don't like the era, i guess u wouldn't want these... I agree with you on Final Cut being underrated...very depressing album but great music.... The title track for Atom Heart Mother can be trying for some people but the other stuff is not bad..I'm particuliarly fond of If and Summer '68.... Obscured got some really rocking stuff on it..especially Free Four... I agree with you that Momentary is hard to accept as "real" Floyd; especially when u considered how many session players played on it (like Final Cut is really sort of Waters solo album, this is pretty much Dave's solo album) but I tend to think Division Bell is real Floyd as far as the sound goes....u have to admit the lyrics on DB is a big step up on the MLoR album... PuppetKing2112
sorry, I guess I forgot to mention then...I DO have the Thunder live album, as well as the Wall Live 1980 one (Is there Anybody Out there?). The Wall one is awesome...my English teacher said he saw them do the Wall in their only US appearence that year. He also saw Rush 3 times in the 80s, so he officially kicks ass. Thunder is OK but it sounds more like a nostalgia state fair act than a real Floyd show.
Test4VitalSigns
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/test4vitalsigns/PF77Comp.jpg Found this rare pic of the infamous PF show in Montreal on the Animals tour...this show is well known in the annals of Floyd history...Roger snapped and enticed a young fan, who was whooping it up big time, to come closer and Rog did the unthinkable and spat in the face of the fan....this was the turning point in Rog's vision of the up coming classic The Wall; exploring the "barrier" that existed between a well known band and its audience...a brick in the wall you could say....apparently this pic was taken just moments before the ugly incident.... rickyrob
I have: DSOTM - CD Wish You Were Here - on vinyl Animals - Vinyl and CD The Wall - CD and Video Division Bell - CD Pulse - CD and Video I once owned Ummagumma on vinyl, but didn't really like it - with the exception of "...Axe..." Animals was always my favourite, although Dogs does go on a bit I prefer Dark Side of the Moon in live format on Pulse - it rocks in fact all of Pulse is fantastic When The Division Bell was released, it became one of my favourite albums of all time...I haven't listened to it for the best part of 10yrs now though Favourite songs: One of these Days, Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Learning to Fly, Wish You Were Here, Take it Back, What Do You Want From Me, Sheep, Us and Them thru to Eclipse, oh and Sammy Brown singing Great Gig in the Sky
Slaine mac Roth
QUOTE (PuppetKing2112 @ Jun 26 2005, 03:47 AM) Atom heart Mother - I'm sorry, this one just bored me. droning, boring stuff...nothing really happens at all. I'll out my hand up and say that I absolutely love Atom Heart Mother. Then again, I've always had a thing for long rambling instrumental pieces and this has got to be one of the best. Lord Ghaleon
Atom Heart is fantastic. But to hear how they used to do it live, with Gilmour and Wright doing the vocal harmonies instead of the choir, is even better.

Arndrake
Their performance at Live 8 was phenomenal. I was moved to tears watching the four of them perform together again. I really hope this turns over a new leaf for them and they might at least tour together one more time. They don't have to make another album (that might be a bad idea as their creative differences could cause problems again), just dust off the old hits and tour again. GhostGirl
I cried like a baby. It was amazing to see and hear, and I'll never forget it. Today's been a rough day for me, but seeing those four men on stage together made everything seem okay for a while.

Test4VitalSigns
K we know Syd named the band after two obscured bluesmen named Pink Anderson and Floyd Council..what I want to know is has anybody ever heard any recordings by these guys? I've been looking for some since I found this out back in the 80's and still haven't heard any music by them...Even with the advent of downloading on the net I still can't find even a snippet of music...Anybody else ever heard these guys? http://support.uni-oldenburg.de/~floyd/eng...ml#PinkAnderson http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/test4vitalsigns/more%20gifs/pinkan.gif Pink Anderson http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/test4vitalsigns/more%20gifs/floydco.gif Floyd Council Edited July 4, 2005 by Test4VitalSigns
