Yeah, and I can already predict who: Trenken Tony R WCFIELDS Rushgoober Pound of Obscure ReflectedLight GeminiRising etc. All the usual new Rush dislikers. Actually I think Goober will like it! He creams for aimless, meandering compostions with no Structure! Oh wait, these songs will most likely be structured. Ok! He'll be disappointed! His posts have been consistent and he displayed knowledge about HF before the rest of us heard it. He's real. Yeah, he seems real enough. If I had firsthand knowledge of the album I wouldn't go around just indulging people's incredibly specific questions about it. It would be a betrayal of trust. snowdog2112
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ May 2 2012, 11:42 AM) When heavy and good become synonyms, wake me. For you and me, we agree. But for a lot of people who listen to rock a song simply can't be good if it's not also heavy. That's the minimum starting point for them. Just like there's also a subset of fans for whom everything must be at least a certain speed to be any good. Like I said before, that's perfectly fine and people should listen to what they like, I was just making the point that a very large part of the potential audience for the new Rush album has those conditions/expectations and they won't be met based on what we now know. Here, I just went and pulled a good example of someone who's excited about the new album on youtube. This sentiment is all over the place about the new song. Loving the new album....some albums I just like. REALLY cool to get some new Rush that is best listened to cranked to 11 like some of the ollllld stuff. If you don't like the new stuff, most likely you would have turned off the old stuff that secured their place in rock. If it's not your style that's fine....but if you don't like rock set to KICK ASS, shut your pie hole and let us have our eargasm! This album is going to be BADASS! This person and all the ones like him don't give a crap about how good a song might be if it's not KICK ASS and BADASS and you can't crank it to 11. As far as they're concerned that's what all "good" Rush is. And there are a lot of people like that. Edited May 2, 2012 by snowdog2112

Likeclockwork did say it is the best stuff they have written in ages and that it flows like classic Rush and that he didn't think they had this album in them at this point. I expect it to be pretty good regardless of how heavy the rest of it is. I would say there are at least 2-3 more heavy type songs on the record as that is the direction they originally started. Geddy(bass playing wise) is sounding like the old Geddy and Neil is killing it. It's going to be a great record. likeclockwork
The melodic songs are genuinely GOOD. They're just modern sounding, not throwbacks. The Garden is one of the best and most inspired pieces of music I've heard from the band in many years. It's very much a fitting album closer and sounds totally like the final chapter in a concept story. It has a theatrical feel. Overall this is a very strong album with a lot of variety - much much much stronger than the past couple. Whether you love it or not, it's really quality and the songs have a lot of depth. (For whomever questioned whether I've heard it - I've quoted lyrics from Halo Effect & The Garden in past posts so feel free to check back in June for your answer). Alexmai
In my opinion, when Alex said it he doesn't know it was going to be a whole concept instead of a suite... maybe the lyrics were shorter Edited May 3, 2012 by Alexmai
