The Body Electric

On the way for the weekly groceries tonight with the family, the local station played "The Body Electric" from the excellent "Grace Under Pressure".

I was surprised and delighted as I had never heard this song played on the radio before and my 9 year old daughter was quietly reverent and loved the song. (which was probably the greater surprise.)

The DJ (nationally syndicated) talked afterwards for a bit about Geddy saying that the song was derived and inspired from an old 1962 Rod Serling "Twilight Zone" episode titled, "I Sing the Body Electric".

It was so cool. I'll probably be listening to GUP the rest of the weekend.

One of my favorite songs of all time on one of my favorite albums of all time. cool.gif Very cool that you heard it on the radio! That opening drum beat and bass line is timeless...

"I Sing the Body Electric" is also a poem by Walt Whitman.

They could play ANYTHING off P/g! and I'd be thrilled!

Although I would hope they look past DEW, RSA and BTW since all those have been recently played.. but even if it was one of those I'd be happier than a pig in poop.

A Whitman poem also inspired Neil's writing of "Out of the Cradle" from VT.

Neil's references to great literature are an aspect of RUSH I really appreciate.

...and a short story by Ray Bradbury.

Worst Rush song on Rushs worst cd. I can't make it through the song without skipping it. 062802puke_prv.gif

I guess you haven't heard Test For Echo then? wink.gif

Worst Rush song on Rushs worst cd.

I'm with you on the "worst song" part.

This or Red Lenses, but P/G is so damn good that I still consider them great songs that I never skip

P/G is my favorite album.... if I had to choose a least favorite song it would probably be Red Lenses, though with much reluctance (I still love that tune).

Body Electric is probably my favorite, along with Kid Gloves and Desecrator *ahem* Red Sector A.

We all have our opinions and here is where we share them.

I'll take anything off Grace Under Pressure. I have heard Distant Early Warning enough and I'm about done hearing Red Sector A live, but anything else is very welcome.

I like TFE! You know what this means? Rush appeals to us in different ways. What a band! Love em. 2.gif

Their diversity of style is definitely one reason I love 'em.

I agree, I suppose. TBE is maybe my least fave on the album, but I love the album itself. Hmm, now I want to break out the LP and give it a spin, maybe start it on side 2 starting with TBE. cool.gif
