briremo
think about driving to Tampa, its only about 3 hours drive time and you could save the airfare. you'll spend that long turning in your rental, sitting in the airport, on the runway, in the air etc...

briremo
really think about driving... you'll cross Everglades National Park, which is nothing but swamp, but there are opportunities to hit some tourist traps along the way which can be fun, and you'll get to see a part of Florida most people that live here ignore completely. Additionally once you get to Naples, there are opportunities to hit some great lunch spots along the way in Sanibel or Captiva Island (or any one of dozens of resorts along the way). These resorts are luxurious and welcome lunch visitors. Like here for example http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/N...ocale=en_US&rn= and this place is awesome! http://www.southseas.com/?src=sl_sanibelcaptivaorg_link Lots of great things to do! Take your time and enjoy it! That's what I would do! It will be a lot better than getting on a plane and rushing to the hotel to check in. Oh, If I went to Alaska, you would want me to do the same thing! If you are in no hurry and want to take a full day, maybe even stretching it to 2 days this could be a good idea.

briremo
roger that. just figured if you had a few days to burn this could be a good way to do it, It would def be an all day gig as I explained but if you got nuthing else to do it it could be a fun experience and a way to see the state. I'll let you use my boat, I keep it down in the everglades... http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q224/briremo/redneck207.jpg http://www.therushforum.com/html/emoticons/1287.gif

briremo
well, in Ft lauderdale you're only a couple hours from the keys. which is where you're best bet is for bone fishing. Or you could go reef fishing offshore from Ft Lauderdale with zero drive. Or for fly fishing, south Florida is gettin famous for the Peacock bass in vasion and they are voracious top water hitters so think about that while you;re in Ft Liqourdale Now good redfishing is available on the west coast along with tarpon.   check out this link for more info than you'll know what do with.
