PocketWatch
German melodic rock/metal (but they sing in English). These days it is essentially the Lenny Wolf Band, i.e., Wolf plus musicians that go by the name of Kingdom Come. They started off by being a very good clone of Led Zeppelin and still suffer from that tag even though over the years Wolf has managed to craft a distinctive sound IMO. Plenty of killer riffs. My favourite albums are Bad Image, Master Seven and Independent but I like them all.

I asked around, found a friend who had their then-current release and gave it a listen. Yeah... Kingdom Clone. Quite an apt name, I discovered. TheAccountant
Only have their first album which is ok but nothing really special. So many better albums and groups from that era. It really was the Golden Age of Rock (or at least a second golden age if one counts the 60's - early 70's). Why, in my opinion, are they just buried by superior groups / albums? Think about the truly great groups that were at their best in the mid to late 80's and into the early 90's when Kingdom Come came on the scene. Then add in the not truly great groups who at least put out their best and most enjoyable work in those years. Then add in the groups (great or not) who may not have been at their best in this era but were still putting out good music. Shall I just mention a few? How about: Rush (obviously) Def Leopard Judas Priest Iron Maiden Dokkan Journey Triumph Twisted Sister Tesla Firehouse Winger Ozzy Dio Bryan Adams White Snake White Lion Great White Scandal The Firm The Outfield (ok - maybe just one or 2 songs but..) The Hooters (same as above) Heart Boston (3rd album came out in this period) Bad Co. Foreigner (past prime but still putting out some ok stuff roughly in this period) The Scorpions Warlock (forget about how good Triumph and Agony is as an album - one word for you - Doro!! ) Springstein John Cougar John Fogerty (Centerfield album) 38 Special Poison The artists who had been part of The Eagles Cinderella Bon Jovi Roger Daltry (his Under A Raging Moon album - check out the title track!!) VH Sammy Hagar Katrina & The Waves (don't own any of their stuff but once every 6 months or so when I here "Walking on Sunshine" it gets cranked up - hay, my taste runs to 80's metal but I have some strangely varied likes) Savatage Night Ranger Dam Yankees GTR Yes (90125 and Big Generator - my favorite Yes albums are from this period) Asia Did I forget anybody? Of course I did, this is just a short list I whipped up and its in no particular order. Point being that Kingdom Come was ok (or at least their 1st album was) but they are just buried in tons of better music that came along at the same time. In short, ok but far from memorable. I am showing my Hair Metalist Obsession again, yet nonetheless I like their "In Your Face" album too. Hell I confess! I own every Kingdom Come album. Lenny has been very busy over the decades. Kingdom Come is still putting records out all the time and I'm still buying the product. I am sure this doesn't surprise anyone in these hallowed halls of hard rock! Signed, "Mr. Scary" I was there too. We BBQ'd cheeseburgers and swilled beer out in the parking lot during Kingdom Come's set. We went in just before Metallica hit the stage. I remember cracking up because someone had hung a huge banner from the second deck that read "Kingdom Clone" The Scorps stole the show, imo. What makes the recommendation very interesting to me is that, although I like Zep. they are just so grossly overplayed. Its gotten to the point with me that if I hear a Zep song come on the radio I almost want to change the station. When it comes to Zep, less really can be more. Like I said, that was just a quick list I typed up off the top of my head. Looking at it now I can see so many more obvious groups I overlooked. Without thinking about it I could have included: Skid Row Slaughter The KBC Band Killer Dwarves Accept ACDC KISS Guns & Roses LA Guns Bob Seger Europe Krokus Obviously my experience with them is somewhat limited and I will have to spend some of my hard earned $ to get more of their albums but my point remains. Not a bad group but just buried in a Golden Age of Rock where their were sooo many good groups with sooo much good music that they are justifiably a somewhat forgotten group. Glad for the recommendations though. Perhaps they will open my eyes (or ears as the case may be).
