I always loved listening to Genesis every since I was a little kid. My family for some reason couldn't stand Phil Collins, so I kept me admiration for Genesis in the dark. I just found out about a year ago that Peter Gabriel used to be lead singer. Since then Genesis has become one of my favorite bands!

So what's some of your favorite Genesis Songs?

Here's some of mine in no particular order:

Keep it Dark
Me and Sara Jane
Follow You Follow Me
I can't Dance
Supper's Ready (both Studio and Seconds out version)
Firth of Fith
"In the cage" melody from 3 sides live
Musical Box
Abacab

They've got such a big catalog of songs, so let's hear some yours

With the exception of I Cant Dance Im right there with you on the songs you listed. I love the Gabriel years, but find myself listening to Three Sides Live-Abacab and the Genesis (shapes) albums the most. Love early 80s Collins-era

I like a lot of what's been said so far, I'll add one I haven't seen come up yet:

Just a Job to Do

It's so... 80's. But in a good way.

Its an excellent song, no matter when it came out.

Don't know if I mentioned this above, but...

THE KNIFE. 1022.gif More metal than anything Genesis ever did - easily the best track from the first 3 albums. 1022.gif wub.gif

That would be The Musical Box biggrin.gif

Perhaps The Knife is more metal, but TMB is a better song wub.gif

Listen to The Knife from their 1973 Live album. It will knock your socks off. SO heavy!! 1022.gif

Been a huge Genesis fan for years, ever since I was little. I used to air drum all the time along with their albums.......okay, I'll admit I still do sometimes. tongue.gif laugh.gif

When I finally got to see them on their 2007 reunion tour (which was better than I initially expected to be honest) I was so ecstatic and happy.

Here are some of my favourite tunes:

The Knife

The Musical Box

Supper's Ready

Firth Of Fifth

The Cinema Show (that ending instrumental section is amazing, live its even better)

The Lamb

In The Cage

Back In NYC

Carpet Crawlers

Dance On A Volcano (that intro, and THOSE BASS PEDALS)

Squonk

Los Endos

One For The Vine

Afterglow (my all time favourite Genesis song)

Down And Out

The Lady Lies

Follow You Follow Me

Turn It On Again

Duke's Travels/Duke's End

Abacab

Keep It Dark

Dodo

Man On The Corner

Mama

Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea

Just A Job To Do

Silver Rainbow (this song along with the above tune is quite underrated)

Land Of Confusion (most people dismiss this as pop shite, but I say its one of the most rocky songs they ever did, its pretty heavy and Phil has quite an aggressive vocal on it)

Domino

No Son Of Mine

Dreaming While You Sleep

Fading Lights

Driving THe Last Spike

The Dividing Line (yes I know its from Calling All Stations, but this track is quite good, with some powerhouse drumming from Nir Z on it. Live its a monster with a dueling guitar intro. Check it out!)

An honourable mention goes out to Fountain Of Salmacis which I feel is an underrated Gabriel era song. Those swells of Mellotron throughout are beautiful, and Steve Hackett has a nice solo at the end. I love a lot more songs than that, however I would be here all day typing them so those are just a few. smile.gif

Absolutely...just an awesome song!! Love it so much.

I'm a huge fan of the Collins-led Genesis, and the self-titled album is my personal fav.

It's right up there for me...never get tired of it. That bridge is awesome.

Oh my gosh. Supper's Ready. wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Listened to it 2.5 times today. Without a doubt, could easily maul any other Genesis song in a death fight.

One of the few symphonic prog epics to provide REAL emotion and perfect marriage of rock, symphonic, and lyrics.

I may very well be the only person in existence who to some extent likes every single genesis song. It's just that classic line-up is something else entirely.

Even the unholy triumvirate of crapness?

Those aren't Genesis songs. Those are by Phil Collins (featuring Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford).

Yep, and to me, that's when they stopped being Genesis and turned into Phil Collins' Motown-wannabe project. Or as I like to call it, Selling Out Genesis By The Pound.

Actually in an interview on one of their concert DVD's , you'll hear Tony Banks say that HE was the one who came up with the chords to Hold On My Heart. Phil only wrote the lyrics.

I can see why they put it into the setlist in 2007. After the roller coaster ride of the In The Cage Medley, and before Home By The Sea, they needed something to give the crowd a rest (and a trip to the bathroom) and IMO that was a good song to do the job.

I reviewed the 2 shows I went to in 2007 in the reviews section, and I mentioned how handy Hold On My Heart was for a WC break.

It has no other use. Well maybe one other. It might have some white noise style interrogation properties.
