Hard to believe that no one has started a thread about this phenominal book (unless, of course, someone has and I missed it).

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline is a veritable wet dream for those of us of a "certain age" who grew up up in the 70s/80s and were immersed in pop culture.

The book is set in the not-to-distant future (2140's) where the real world has badly deteriorated and most people spend their time logged in to a fully immersive virtual universe called the Oasis. When the creator of the Oasis dies, he leaves behind a video will stating that his vast wealth and ownership of the Oasis will go to the first person who successfully finds an "easter egg" that he has left somewhere in the Oasis universe. To find the egg, one must find three keys that open three gates. Since the Oasis creator was very much a child of the 70s/80s, the challenges and clues that the egg hunters ("gunters") must solve are all steeped in pop culture from that era...music, movies, books. comics, video games, tv, etc.

Not surprisingly, Rush references abound, and Rush plays a particularly pivital role in acquiring the final key. The author has said in interviews that Rush is his favorite band.

While the nonstop references to the pop culture of that time period may scare off some, those who take the plunge will be rewarded with one of the most engaging, imaginative, ambitious, accessible stories that they have ever read.

Any one else love this great book?
