Nic Cage was practically the only thing about this film i liked.. the actress who played Ed was good too.

this is the style of film I can't stand.. It's reminiscent of natural born killers or dead alive - constant in-your-face "comedy", action, and over-exaggeration. I feel like these films were directed this way for the sole reason to give people sensory overloads until they can't help but laugh... Well, I just get annoyed.

Now, what Nicolas Cage film am I to watch next?

(still glad I watched this film btw though since it proved to me that Cage is even more of a versatile actor than I previously thought)

That was Holly Hunter wasn't it?

Yep

don't know her

You don't know her? Oh she's very good. try The Piano and The Big White.

will do

I dragged myself out of the house yesterday and decided to see this:

Aikenrooster, if you haven't seen this and gotten the message about ordinary people, YOU are the selfish ass. I'm just opinionated, female, and smarter than you.

:moon: :moon: :moon: :moon: :moon:

The movie poster is enough to make me not wanna see it.

#1 NYT best seller is no proud accomplishment.. usually indicates a warning, in fact.

I recommend The Weather Man and Red Rock West.

I am watching The Deer Hunter for the first time. So far I am at the wedding scene, and I have to pause it because it is so happy and joyful and a part of me cannot cope with the thought of the horror that is about to be unleashed...I seriously am considering taking this film slowly (I have strong views on war, and it isn't that I am sensitive to violence, I just love people in general too much to watch them suffer, but at the same time I refuse to deny the harsh realities of life and human history.)

Wise choice. The ending is really sad. I always cry everytime I see it. Underrated performance by DeNiro.

I watched that a while back, mainly because it had Bruce Campbell in it. I enjoyed it, in a kid's movie kind of way.

That's why I watched it! I saw it on his wiki page or IMDB page a while back and looked it up and saw then that Kurt Russell was in it and bam, it had to be put on my list. Trouble with Bruce these days he only seems to have small roles in most films he's in, I wonder why that is? I thought the film was pretty good too, and I figured out that the hot girl was the villain well before it was revealed!

It's one of those movies that's better than it has any right to be because of the great cast and Winstead is indeed hot.

I have no doubt that this film acted as (at least some) inspiration for American Psycho... I see just too many similarities.

Well American Psycho was a book first, so the filmakers based the film version on the novel, they didn't need to borrow from another film so you can't blame them. Of course the book came out after the Cage film so maybe the author, Brett Easton Ellis got his ideas from watching it.

(spoilers below for those who haven't seen Vampire's Kiss or American Psycho)

Well while there's similarities in the plots, i don't think it's specific enough to be notable. The similarities in Nic and Christian's characters though? Uncanny. Their only difference really is Nic's character has a slightly harder time holding his composure, and that he's delusional about vampirism (or was he?) rather than psychopathy (or was he?)

Ran a few searches and found I'm not the only one who picked up on this.

Here's a lazy side by side comparison

I've not seen any of the sequels (I think there a 4 Lethal Weapons in all) but I enjoyed the first.

I wouldn't really say it's like Mad Max, except for the presence of Mel Gibson (I love Mad Max, too)...I'd probably say it's got slight traces of Dirty Harry, and a bit of Beverly Hills Cop...but mainly it is it's own thing.

Gibson is great in it, starting off unhinged and suicidal, but then forming a bond with Glover over the course of the film, that gives the movie some heart.

I'll have to look into the sequels.

A very fun revenge flick, with Pam Grier taking on drug dealers, pimps, dirty cops and anyone else who gets in her way.

I think I nearly overdosed on Funk music while watching this movie

I am sure at some point i have seen it. Seems like a low budget flick. I love those types! :D

That "Brick Top" pretty much stole the film!

The Bling Ring

My post teenage hormones are alerting me to the ridiculous amount of hotness Emma Watson exudes.

Awwww...man...I want a piece of that!

It was decent.

It was worth watching for the Jerusalem Scene where...

the zombies started scaling the wall by climbing on one another.. a horror/action film hasn't gotten me to go "holy shit!" in quite that way before, I don't think.
