RUSHHEAD666
Listening to GUP tonight and the drumming on "Red Lenses" still boggles my mind. I've been trying to play through that song for decades. I can get through it but I can't master it. Hell I don't even have electronic drums weaved within my acoustic DW kit, but I do have proper drum, cymbal and cowbell placement to at least pretend to pull it off. I just wish that Rush had the technology that they have now for back then when they recorded the GUP album. Seriously, I would love to see Neil in the studio nail down "Red Lenses." The end part of "RL" during the fade out is just nuts. How does he do that shit? Neil is a human octopus. Another in studio song I would love to see by a camera over Neil's head is "Bravado." I remember reading an interview by Alex. Even Alex was mystified and dumbfounded by Neil during the recording of the drum parts for that song!! Say what you want about Neil but no drummer on the earth can touch the man. Not even Mike Portnoy! I will bet any Dream Theater Diehard a 1000 USD that Mike Portnoy can't play "Red Lenses" all the way through. Neil Rules!! This is Neil playing to "Red Lenses:"

HowItIs
Sadly, the new DVD isn't available in Blu-Ray I know what you mean re; Red Lenses. There's some crazy-a$$ stuff going on in there! I'd also like to see an overhead of Scars. Holy cow! It took me awhile to even hear all the parts. Simply amazing.
Babycat
I know what you mean, and regarding another song - from a studio POV, I wish I could see the way they did Working Man (1974) during the instrumental - Christ, that's one heck of a session, as one unit. Blows me away every time I hear it, and my jaw just drops.
kbomb106
It's not Neil, but this guy does a fairly good job of it. He's a little off in a couple of parts, but overall, he nails it.

ghostworks
11-21-1984 audience shot, but you get a taste of what it was like to be there in '84 (sans the drum solo in the middle of the song) interestingly, no rotating riser in Japan... so, Neil plays with his back to the crowd

He did a great job. It was great to study the electronic pad placement along with the cowbell tree completely diagonal to the high tom tom. That song really is a tough one. I think it's Neil's best drumming on a song. I mean how the hell did the man invent those drumming patterns to get that kind of sound? It's just incredible. I would like to see Neil incorporate that drumming now into his current kit set up. I would die if Rush pulled "Red Lenses" out of the closet and played it on the next tour. Wouldn't some of you Rush junkies love it too????? When the "Clockwork Angels" Tour Live comes out on Blu-Ray I will get my wish and will be able to see Neil drum on that song from an above camera!! I can dream right? Edited October 15, 2011 by RUSHHEAD666

I was pumped up to see a different drummer try and play to "Red Lenses." Not many drummers to attempt do they? Yet more proof that Neil is the greatest drummer ever. Or should I say was?
