Bastille Dave
I can't even begin to come up with my alltime favorite bands, I go through periods where I am totally into any given band for a week or two. So I suppose based on these criteria I would come up with the following bands/artists: # of CD's, vinyl LP's and downloaded bootlegs concerts. (in no particular order except for Rush) Rush Beatles Metallica Helloween Judas Priest Iron Maiden Black Sabbath April Wine Triumph Led Zep Deep Purple Aerosmith AC/DC Kiss Bad Co. Beach Boys Blackfoot BOC Boston The Cars Cream CCR Def Lep (early) Dokken ELP Elton John(early) Clapton Jeff Beck Yardbirds Fates Warning Joe Satch Eric Johnson *whew* I could go on forever, you get the idea......basically tons of bands from the vinyl era (1964or 65 to about 1988 or 89 and also bands that are old school-ish from the last 20+years) Edited September 25, 2011 by Bastille Dave
goose
QUOTE (danielmclark @ Sep 24 2011, 01:17 AM) QUOTE (cheech44 @ Sep 23 2011, 10:37 PM) Anyway, I thought'd make an interesting thread to see if others have such disparate tastes ... Yep. The Cure. Was listening to Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me this past week and...it really shows the musicianship of the band. Lots of technical jamming that doesn't show up in the Cure's pop stuff...miles away from Love Cats.

Ancient Ways
It's interesting because only Rush and The Beatles have stayed with me since I started listening to music. I go through periods where I like bands that fade. A few other bands that I really enjoy are The Sundays, Porcupine Tree, Silversun Pickups, and Death Cab for Cutie. Hoovermac
The other favourites are Iron Maiden, Yes, King Crimson, ELP, and U2. I also like bands such as Cream, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Gentle Giant, Allman Brothers, and the list goes on (forever).
TheBluePhoenix
1. Rush (duh!) 2. LIVE 3. Also my number one favorite female artist is Joan Osborne. Yeah, I know what you're thinking: "Joan Osborne? WTF?" She's actually an extremely gifted singer. She's made a lot of great music since "One of Us" but unfortunately she gets no airplay and no support from her label. 4. Tenacious D. I know they're a comedy band but they've written some really good songs. The rest are not in any particular order. For these bands I love some of their stuff and then there's some stuff that I don't like. Some of these bands have jumped the shark and I don't buy their new CDs anymore but I still enjoy the older stuff. Adele (I love 21 but 19 is kind of boring.) Dream Theater Foo Fighters Godsmack Green Day Iron Maiden Metallica Queensryche Steve Vai Steve Morse Edited September 26, 2011 by TheBluePhoenix

I'll most likely go see them if they come to town (or within a couple of hours of town if it's a Fri or Sat night). The band has 3 members who I've seen live before: Steve Gorman, Audley Freed, and Jackie Green. I was very impressed with Green so I think the band will be pretty good. Union 5-3992
Too many to name, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Yes, Jethro Tull, Dio, Black Sabbath, George Harrison, ELP, too hard to choose. All are tied with Rush for first. I chose to come to this forum for I felt Rush has a more intellectual fan base.

trenken
I have to narrow it down to 2. I have a lot of bands I love, some very different than rush but dont feel like naming all of them. Have to support these 2 bands with vids. LIVE - First of all, their name is ridiculously fitting, because they are probably the best live band I've ever seen. They just emit this crazy amount of energy when you saw them. Seeing them was just a powerful event. Very different than going to a Rush show. Look at that crowd at 1:45. And god that chorus at 2:45, gets my blood pressure up every time. MARS VOLTA - Well their song writing really reminds me of old Rush, but they are a lot more adventurous. I dont know, just their style is very fluid, not so rigid like Rush was in their prog days so I feel like it has more energy. And they are also a fantastic live band. Have to fast forward to like 2:20 to get to the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p854caYY75g
