Is Bastille progressive? I'm still trying to find a progressive song from Rush

"2112", "Cygnus X-1", "Hemispheres", "The Necromancer", "By-Tor and the Snow Dog", "Xanadu", "La Villa Strangiato", "Jacob's Ladder", "Natural Science"...

[i. Into the Darkness]

'As grey traces of dawn tinge the eastern sky,

the three travelers, men of Willowdale,

emerge from the forest shadow.

Fording the River Dawn, they turn south, journeying

into the dark and forbidding lands of the Necromancer

Even now the intensity of his dread power can be felt,

weakening the body and saddening the heart

Ultimately they will become empty, mindless spectres...

stripped of will and soul, only

their thirst for freedom gives them hunger for vengeance...'

Silence shrouds the forest

As the birds announce the dawn

Three trav'llers ford the river

And southward journey on

The road is lined with peril

The air is charged with fear

The shadow of his nearness

Weighs like iron tears

[iI. Under the Shadow]

'Shreds of black cloud loom in overcast skies.

The Necromancer keeps watch with his magic prism eyes.

He views all his lands and is already aware of the three helpless invaders

trapped in his lair...'

Brooding in the tower

Watching o'er his land

Holding ev'ry creature

Helplessly they stand

Gaze into his prisms

Knowing they are near

Lead them to the dungeons

Spectres numb with fear

They bow defeated

[iII. Return Of the Prince]

'Enter the Champion

Prince By-Tor appears to battle for freedom from chains of long years

The spell has been broken...the Dark Lands are bright.

The Wraith of the Necromancer soars

away in the night.'

Stealthily attacking

By-Tor slays his foe

The men are free to run now

From labyrinths below

The Wraith of Necromancer

Shadows through the sky

Another land to darken

With evil prism eye

Just bought it today at Best Buy and I think it's a good album... On my 3rd time listening to it (at ITIGB now) and I'll weigh each song against each other...

Bastille Day: Rocker. Awesome. How many bands can rock out to the French Revolution??

I Think I'm Going Bald: Silly, but still a good song. I showed this to my dad (who's showing signs of male-pattern baldness tongue.gif) and he laughed.

Lakeside Park: I really like the atmosphere of this song. It's a good one to kinda chill out to.

The Necromancer: I think the voice-over thing really ruined the atmosphere. I think it would've been a lot more emotional if it wasn't for that dang voice. Minus that, it's a good song.

The Fountain of Lamneth: Not their best 20-minuter, but it's quite good. If any other band did this I'd be like "Holy crap!!" I really like how it portrays growing older and what-not.

In conclusion: The race is close between Bastille Day and The Fountain of Lamneth. I'm going to give the rest of the album one more listen before I decide.

I think that Caress was their only real Progressive Rock Album. 2112 was a rocking album with complex time signature, but Passage and so on were your hard, complex rock tunes Rush is famous for. Funny thing though? Talk progressive about politics, then you're label a commie, music? You're blue blood. An elite.

Hmmm... IDK what to think of that voice on the Necromancer right now... I don't know if Geddy could sing those lines without me laughing, either... Boy, this album is really consistent.... Now the race is Bastille Day vs Necromancer vs Lamneth... I'll vote 1 week from today smile.gif

very very hard one for me!

Bastille Day is great, but I also love The Fountain.

However the Necromancer, actually can TAKE ME THERE in my mind, so it wins.

Well, unfortunately, I've only heard "Bastille Day." But cuz I'm such a heavy metal fanatic, I dig it. It sounds a little like my boys Led Zeppelin.

So, basically, someone should buy me a copy of the album. Or even just loan it to me. It's all good.

BTW, wasn't this album one that critics and fans kinda took a dump on when it first came out? This makes no sense to me, as "Bastille Day" is definitely on my list of Rush favs.

Alrighty then, peace out boarder.gif
