Yes - Fly From Here

Most of this but I haven't heard or am not excited for some.

But A Grounding In Numbers is my current beat album of the year.

Let's see if Yes surpasses that.

But I doubt anything this year will surpass my love for Snake Oil, and some other genius tracks.

Hopefully Tool will be out soon but APC is touring, and I might catch them with my guitarist.

Looking forward for SW stuff, BTBAM, Riverside, Astra, Opeth, and I need to get into TMV soon. Hopefully Mike and the other DT stuff will be cool. Dust Bowl is sick stuff.

Really really looking forward to hearing the rest of that somewhat KC album, though.

There hasn't been a lot this year that I've really loved besides the new Between the Buried and Me, but there's some cool stuff coming later.

New Opeth, Black Dahlia Murder, Toxic Holocaust, and Skeletonwitch. Possible Mastodon, Tool, and Mars Volta. The new Revocation should be good (last album was awesome). New Primus!

And most importantly.....LIMP BIZKIT. cool.gif

Funny, I had never heard of this band until this morning when i was perusing the metalsucks guitarist list link that put in the AAL thread. Now you mention them, so i check them out. Just listened to dismantle the dictator and it was quite good. trink39.gif

Best year for new music ever would have to be either 1969, 1970, 1971, or 1972.

Warren Haynes - Man In Motion

Albums that I plan to buy

I think you're just a little excited, O wink.gif

a list of phenomenal albums that were released each year over the past 20 years (1990 to 2010) would likely overwhelm you

that can't take anything away from your enjoyment of 2011 trink39.gif - but a little perspective would serve you well, kid!

I'm checking out that Metalsucks article right now. An actual really good list!

To be honest, not much has rocked my boat so far this year. I've enjoyed "A Grounding in Numbers" by Van Der Graaf Generatror & "War & Peace and Other Short Stories" by Sean Filkins. Bonamassa's "Dust Bowl" is good but not great & "The King Is Dead" is not a patch on "The Hazards of Love". I was pleasantly suprised by the Foo Fighter album though.

There are a few from the first few months of this year that might/will make it into my top five at the end of the year.

The Decemberists - The King is Dead

Panic! At the Disco - Vices & Virtues

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake (I've only heard it once, but it was just soooo good)

Radiohead - The King of Limbs

Here's a few albums from this year that I like so far.

Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2

Cake - Showroom of Compassion

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

Green Day - Awesome as F**k

Lupe Fiasco - Lasers

Panda Bear - Tomboy

Patrick Stump - Truant Wave EP

Social Distortion - Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes

The Strokes - Angles

Thursday - No Devolucion

TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light

(I actually listened to Lady Gaga's new record, just because so many people have done nothing but rave about her music, and it didn't impress me. However, to echo another TRFer's sentiment, "Bloody Mary" is a pretty good song from the record, probably the only song I actually liked.)

Upcoming releases I'm interested in

Coldplay

Steven Wilson

Yes

I thought the best track on the album was the title track. After the first two songs though, it got so repetitive that I almost fell to sleep. I suppose "Government Hooker" was OK. From a user on youtube that I watch often who reviews new albums, he said that a lot of her music (to him) had replay value outside of the club setting it was meant for. But the new album really just stays in the club. I can still stick around to her earlier stuff for sentimental purposes. Other than that, I find nothing new or intriguing in her music. She's finally set herself into the stereotypical pop star (more so than she already was). I think what was going through her mind during the writing process was "How many references to the LGBT community and religion can I cram into this record". And really that's what it's about anyway. Makes me feel a bit less proud to be honest.

Another thoughtful, insightful post from Mr. Earthshine, purveyor of all things jazz-fusion and obscure.

Heh, I actually agree with a lot of that, especially the whole replay value thing. I like a few of her "older" songs (Poker Face, Bad Romance, I suppose Alejandro isn't too bad), but the record sounded too pop.

And I really, really want to like her music. In interviews, she seems intelligent and well-spoken. Normally, it would help me enjoy the music, but it didn't really do much. I might go back and check out her earlier stuff, just to see if there's anything else I dig.

I've only listened to it once, but one listen was all I needed.

Geoff should just quit the band and sell his wine and STOP dragging the rest his bandmates down.

I'm just venting right now, but that's how I feel.
