What was your first concert EVER?

Recommended Posts

Grand Funk Railroad, June 21, 1974 in Spokane, WA at the Coliseum

I looked it up online :-)

I knew who I saw and was pretty sure it was summer of '74 but now I know for sure.

Did they do "Closer to My Home"?

That song is actually called "I'm Your Captain".

Feel my pain...

HIM at Brixton Academy sometime in 2007.

Ville Valo and his boys were these irritating gothic flavoured boy band rockers who plastered annoying, cliched "poetic" and "deep" metaphorical lyrics on the hearts and minds of susceptible and gullible young people.

Some of them grew up and realised their dreadful pop flavoured blend of Black Sabbath and Duran Duran was anything but "deep" and the "poetic" nature of their lyrics were no more artful than the likes of Hanson or Wheatus.

Of all the bands I could have seen first, it had to be that one. What is worse, they were really boring! The crowd often had to shout to stop Ville Valo from talking rubbish and start singing!

Nope. My best friend loved it though...

Huey Lewis and the News- Sports tour, summer of 1984- Timberwolf Amphitheater at Kings Island. I was eleven. I remember that my mother was upset because everybody was standing up, and I couldn't see anything (I was a little squirt back then). My step-dad tried to put me up on his shoulders, but it didn't work out too well.

That was the only time I saw that band, too. Fleeting interests, you know...

I had been listening to Rush for a few years at that point, but my first Rush show wasn't until March of 1990, right before my 17th birthday. I went alone to that one, and had a blast.

Other bands I saw in that mid to late '80s period (before I started going to LOTS of shows in the '90s):

Tesla and David Lee Roth, Neville Brothers, Moody Blues, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jeff Beck.

KISS November 4, 1979. That was the Dynasty tour, full make up, original members, etc. I was 12 <!--emo& :D--><img src='http://www.therushfo...ons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> What an eye opening experience <!--emo& :o--><img src='http://www.therushfo...ticons/ohmy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='ohmy.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo& :P--><img src='http://www.therushfo...cons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /><!--endemo-->

That was the tour I begged and pleaded like f**k to go but I was deemed way too young. They meant the world to me back then. All I kept listening to was a dubbed cassette of Dynasty from a much older friend and the Paul Stanley solo vinyl. Too young to even have pocket money, no computer of course way back then, never played on the radio...it was sheer magic I tell ya! :codger: :atickhum: :hail:

I think it was Van Morrisson in Cork, sometime in the mid 80's.

Heavy anaesthetic shit right there. Bloody awful. It's a miracle I became the gigwhore I am today after that load of old man's dribble.

I can't stand him.

he's got 2 great albums, the rest of his works I care nothing about. by the mid 80s I'd imagine he probably sounded like total shit. the time to see van morrison was like, 1970 or something.

Even his classic shit I have trouble with. Dunno, just one of those voices I guess.

Believe it or not ............ Rush, 1981 Rotterdam Ahoy The Netherlands. I was 16 years old. Hooked on Rush forever. Still remember the concert, the atmosphere, my utter joy seeing them live / alive. I've got a bootleg from this concert and listen to it at least one time a year.

Buddy Rich and Louie Bellson at the University of Redlands in 1978. Amazing. Got Bob "Col. Hogan" Crane's autograph on the program. He was a drummer too and he died shortly afterward.

First rock show was KISS at the Cow Palace November 25, 1979. Last tour of the original lineup. The Rockets opened and haven't been heard from since.

The Police

August 17, 1982, Nashville, Tn

I was 16 and had no idea what was going on.

Girls were going crazy and I was sure Sting and Stewart Copeland were going to get into a fist fight at any moment.

I was hooked on live shows for life after that. Within a few months of that concert I saw Rush for the first time as well as Genesis, Yes and a few other bands. Times were good.

The Carpenters 4/19/75 at the old Hershey Arena!

My first "rock" concert was Foghat and Sweet at the same place in May of 1978! Great show!

(and this gives me an idea for another thread....stay tuned)
