What a fun day yesterday. My new Infiniti has keyless ignition, and we took our son out to Platteville for a university visit. Get home to a locked house with my keys inside, my wife brought a compact purse due to the tour and left her keys in the house also.

Keyless ignition screwed me yesterday. Going to the store to make a copy of my house key to leave with my parents smile.gif

Do you have an attached garage? If so, you need to get the key pad for the garage door.

yes - we do, and we have a keypad. The door to the house from the garage was locked. We gave my parents a spare key, but my mom thought it was just for when we were on vacation last year and returned it to us without us realizing it. It was a mess.

I find keyless ignition to be annoying. The thought of accidentally driving somewhere without the fob, then not being able to start the car again once you try to come home is dumb.

Turning a key isn't that hard. Hopefully this doesn't become a standard feature in all cars.

Now that is pretty hard to do in the newer models. My car doesn't even recognize mine until I'm about 2 or 3 feet away. I have tested and if my key is on the other side of the garage wall (in my laundry room) it will not start. If I start it, leave it running and get out - it alerts you like crazy so driving without the fob is pretty apparent.

I work at a carwash, and when customers take their key fob with them, I try to pull their car forwards without it. Most of the time it doesn't work. I guess the range is pretty limited in those fobs, given that customers are usually 30 feet away

This weekend was warm enough, so I did the rear brakes on my car.

I put on some PowerStop Extreme Performance Drilled and Slotted Rotors:

And Akebono ProACT Ultra Premium Ceramic Pads:

And while I had everything apart, I also painted the calipers and brackets black. Looks really good. Will be doing the same to the fronts when the time comes.

I had cross drilled rotors on my Grand Prix GXP (the car I had before my G8 GT). I couldn't get more than 25,000 miles on a set of pads. :rage: I hope your results vary from mine.

Since I'm driving my two expensive vehicles into the ground (2008 Tahoe LT and a 2009 G8 GT), and considering that both vehicles have large V8s (G8 has a bigger engine than the Tahoe...6.0 liter), I decided to add a vehicle to the fleet. I picked up a 2012 Chevy Sonic LT the weekend before Christmas. They were trying to move out the 2012's so I got this bad boy for $2,500 below sticker ($1,500 below invoice actually), WITH 0% financing. :haz:

It has a 1.4 liter turbo with a six speed manual. It will actually do 0-60 in under 8 seconds and get over 32 miles per gallon (that's what we are getting so far driving to and from work, and other running around). That should improve after the engine is broken in.

I'll let you know. I'm just over 39,000 right now. We'll see :)
