Pags Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 My 5 year old was busy with her markers and came to show me the picture she drew, a cute drawing of a mermaid in the ocean with islands of flowers with the sun in the sky. Then she asked if I would draw one as well.... and now that I have I can't tell the difference.

Mara Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hand me a ruler with a straightedge, and I may or may not be able to draw a straight line. It's a tossup every time. Pags, I think a lot of us can sympathize with you on this matter!

Actually, you should post both and have us guess which one is yours When I was 9 (back in 1981) my drawing of Wolverine and Nightcrawler [which, of course, was way before any X-MEN cartoon or movie was around] got 2nd place in the school art festival. I lost to some girl's crappy color construction paper cut out of a house with tulips beside it. I'm still bitter about that loss! side note: non-comic kids thought my drawing was really cool but they didn't understand why Batman's costume was yellow with black stripes and why there was a blue demon coming out of smoke The year before that the same girl beat my drawing of Evil Knievel [complete with awesome bike flying over a ramp! ] with her drawing of a family eating ice cream. My art nemesis!
Incubus Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I can empathize. Put me in an advanced calculus or physics class, but never in an art room. I'd totally embarrass myself.
Tinwoodsman Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I can draw boxes ... ... awkward pause not those kinds of boxes I mean boxes boxes I are a Tinsmith I fabricate ductwork which are boxes basically, but made of sheet metal When I draw faces, they are angular yet ... I can doodle though wif my crayons must be the otherside of me brain, Like Picasso on Syd Barrett's medication looks like multicolored dogshit I can't draw
Babycat Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I completely embarrass myself too - I couldn't draw properly, couldn't keep the color inside the lines, still can't draw to save my life, AND I can't write someone a letter on unlined paper - it just goes pear-shaped... I'd feel your pain too.
skalamander2112 Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 all of my friends are art majors... needless to say, i am very jealous hey, at least i have music
CMWriter Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 The extent of "good art" for me involves shortcuts on Photoshop (oh the shame!) and the weird animated avatars I make. (Look to your left. ) And graphite. Sort of. A little bit. Not really at all though. :X But don't put a paintbrush in my hand unless my canvas is the size of the kitchen floor!! I have really bad control and can't do detail painting even if the brush has just two or three hairs on it. Art is difficult, guys. Never envy a "talented artist" because more than likely they've put hours of doing and redoing into his or her work. And don't get me started on pottery. I'm working on a box in my art class and it looks more like a lump with four sides.

I like making them 'cause they only take about an hour and it gets me working on a smaller scale. So I really do appreciate the compliment. I'm my own worst critic, eheh...
An Enemy Without Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 The extent of my drawing is the triangles I need to draw for trigonometry. Other than that, I can draw a pretty mean stick figure.

Don't feel bad, my daughter can draw very well and when she was five she was much better at drawing than I was.
An Enemy Without Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I can't draw either, which is probably why I hate art in general.
