Greatest book you've ever read?

I dunno about the 'greatest', but Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" was the most well-written book that I've read.

Greatest would probably be "Dr. Seuss' Sleep Book", just because it always worked, and the pictures were fun to look at.

My sister and I loved this so much! Still do. We loved the page where all the dogs are asleep together, heads on pillows in a huge human bed. It looked like the best slumber party ever!

Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)

Fantastic!

It's really is...and it's also one of only two occasions where a book I love got a movie adaptation to match.

The Viz annual 2003 - the "Rusty Sheriff's Badge". all of the great icons in it - Johnny Fartpants, Sid the Sexist, Roger Melly the man on the Telly, Nobbie's piles,

A coming together of icons

Talk about synchronicity

I was just looking over some viz comics, happy memories. Hardly the best book I have ever read, but hilarious non the less.

Remember wavey davey gravey ?( if memory serves)

And the ads?

Ravey Davey Gravey was actually based on a real person as were most of the characters. He was a shell suit "Chav" selling "E" pills outside a Sunderland "Rave" club in the early 90's.

Apart from the Orwell novels

I have a couple of left field books

"4 iron in the sole" was a road movie book by Lawrence Donegan who spent a year on the European Golf Tour caddying for a Journeyman pro Ross Drummond and his experiences that year. It was a very interesting read about how the golf caddies lived in trailors 6 at a time, drank together and shared chemical toilets.

Lawrence is a journalist for the Guardian and played bass guitar with The Bluebells who had a number one hit with "Young at Heart" in 1984

"While my guitar gently weeps" is a novel about a lead guitar player in an up and coming band who was attacked by thugs outside a gig and had to have two of the fingers on his left hand amputated. He could no longer play and his career was finished. He spent the next couple of years travelling the country to find the two men and a girl who had done this and murdered them by cutting their throats. Sounds very depressing but a really good read, partly in flashbacks.

Yeah I think I met a few :). Do you remember the comedy series Spaced? There was a character in there who I think was lifted from Ravey Davey; hearing tunes in nearly everything, telephone crossings etc.

Yes I watched Spaced a little, humming with the noise the bus makes when it stops.

Tommy could tell totally shit jokes and make them funny, that's why he was a genius.

He said to the Queen after the Royal Variety

Ma'm may I ask you a question please? Do you like football?

The Queen said no not particularly

Well can I have your ticket for the cup final?

Priceless!!!!

Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)

Fantastic!

Didn't know what to expect with that one. It turned out great

In all honesty the film matched the book for me perfectly. Very rare for that to happen!

So I've heard. I haven't seen it yet, but there is one critical part missed out of the film I hear. I can't remember exactly what, but it may have been when she was singing and dancing with the doll.

Ayn Rand's "Anthem"

It's the only book I've ever wanted to read a second time.

I did a book review on it this year for English class, but that was a copy that was handed out to students, so I don't have one myself. What I do have is an Amazon gift card...

Sometimes it is just completely obscure stuff of a book that you pick up at a flea market for 50p or 50c and you read it and think "Hey this is really good"
