Two of my favorites that come to mind:

Ritchie Blackmore's solo (and guitar breaks) in "I Surrender" by Rainbow. Very emotive.

Alex's solo in "No One at the Bridge." Also very emotive; he's never played with so much feel before or since.

Alex Lifeson on "Freewill" and "The Pass". The latter is simply the most emotional, poignant guitarwork I've ever heard done; the former is intense and awesome.

U2 on "Where The Streets Have No Name". The building intro to that song is just awesome.

Dave Gilmour - Comfortably Numb

Dave Gilmour - Time

John Squire (Stone Roses) - I am the Ressurection

Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) - Telegraph Road (yes I know that's deeply unfashionable, but hey, it's a great solo)

Kirk Hammett (Metallica) - Unforgiven

Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) - Alive

I really like the solo at the end of There Was a Time, from Chinese Democracy. I think it was Buckethead that played it, I know that demo is from when he was still in Guns...might have been Robin Finck though. Who knows...it will be interesting to see what it sounds like when/if Chinese Democracy actually drops.

Wow, that tune is awesome.

My other favorite on Maiden's Piece of Mind album was The Trooper.

I have so many favorite guitar leads/solos in various songs. Curious what everyones favorites are, from any band/individual.

*Comfortably Numb - David Gilmore
...just a perfect melody and rhythm, beautiful, very 'vocal'.
* Blue Powder - Steve Vai
...amazing use of amplification, great feel and rhythm.

Indeed - Comfortably Numb - David Gilmore, but from Delicate Sound of Thunder. It's... it's.... "indescribable" truely, it must be experienced!

1. John Petrucci--Hollow Years (Live, Budokon)

2. John Petrucci-- As I Am (Train of Thought)

3. Steve Vai-- Liberty (Passion and Warfare)

4. Steve Morse-- Third Power (High Tension Wires)

5. Alex "the most balanced guitar player ever" Lifeson--Analog Kid, Second Nature, La Villa Strangiato, Jacobs Ladder....Et al>>>
