Mew

Indie / dreampop / shoegaze / "pretentious art rock" (their words)

Pretentious Danish bastards Mew (named after the elusive pokemon?) are helping keep shoegaze alive. They're even nice enough to add a certain cloud surfing happiness feel to what is usually a gloomy genre. If you want a more abstract, even prog-ish (think Sigur Ros) feel to their songs, try "Frengers" or "And the Glass Handed Kites". If you're down to enjoy a more poppy version of the band, newest album "No More Stories" is what you ordered.

Tame Impala

Indie / psychedelic rock

Australian fourpiece Tame Impala don't think you should have to be old to experience great psychrock, and they know what they're doing. Debut full length Innerspeaker (2010) finds all the right melodies and hits all the right grooves. Who knows, you might even get a little stoned while listening ohmy.gif

Bonobo

Downtempo / trip hop / chillout/postparty

Simon Green (AKA Bonobo) has been gracing us with chilled out, beat focused tunes for years. While his back catalogue is great, last years "Black Sands" is far and away his best album so far. Taking his sound to a fleshed out, amazing new level, the album never ceases to disappoint. Also features the beautiful (both appearance and voice-wise) Andreya Triana on three tracks.

and, because why the hell not, here's the single from Triana's solo album "Lost Where I Belong", also from last year:

Based upon Beach I downloaded No More Stories... and will give it a solid listen. Sounds like something I'll really like! I always get excited when I discover a new band with a decent back catalog to explore.

I've had Innerspeaker for a few weeks, and while I can appreciate it, it has yet to really sink its hooks into my musical skin. More time will fix that for sure, but I just haven't been compelled to go back to it yet.

Bonobo is not really my usual fare, but that's usually a good thing since I can discover new genres. I'll hold off on that one until I can absorb the Mew album.

My turn!

Beach House

Indie/Dream-pop

A Baltimore duo consisting of smoky voiced Victoria LeGrand on vocals and synths, and Alex Scally on guitar. To be honest the only album of theirs I have yet to truly fall in love with is their latest, Teen Dream. I have their previous but have yet to absorb them to the extent as their latest. My best musical find of the past 5 years easily.

Walk In The Park

BUMP!

Okay thanks to this thread I am totally in LOVE with Mew. What an amazing band! I've never heard a band capture complexity and make it so damn catchy! I've been ODing on No More Stories... and am so excited to get working on their others.
