I'm making maple/soy chicken breasts and serving a tossed green salad with red onion and avocado on the side, and some grilled sourdough rolls. Some nice white wine to drink with it.

*This* sounds good to me. I know the husband is going to hate it.

A good meal to him is overcooked meat served with no kind of sauce or anything and mashed potatoes. All he wants is a slab of dry meat with potatoes. Call it done in his book. This drives me insane.

But... I have a new rule in the house. She who cooks, serves what she wants to eat.

The barbarian! I love meat and mashed potatoes but no more than twice a month. The more variety, the better! 1022.gif

I could not agree more. I would love to experiment much more with different dishes but it would be a nightly headache trying to get my picky eaters to eat anything.

yummy! that sounds delish!

It was!

We decided weeks ago to start making a lot of homemade dishes and portion it out and freeze it. With food prices rising it's the way to go. And a lot healthier. smile.gif

Ham, yams with butter and brown sugar, and green beans

Too bad you didn't have Spam with that. Then you could say you had ham, yam and spam. And rolls, with jam.

I'm making a braised pork loin Asian style for dinner, with egg noodles and a tossed salad.

Of course I cooked that, one thing I was disappointed about that is that I did not get the smoke on that I wanted.... Before I moved into an apartment I had a decent sized pit... and although I did not have a smoker, I could rearrange the coals to one side and make sure the meat was not over direct heat... add wood chips and I could smoke the hell out of some ribs (Baby Back or Spare) or some chicken wings.....

Now that I am in an apartment All I have to settle for is a little 18'' Weber grill.... which gets the job done and is great for something like steak, pork chops, fish, or chicken breasts, but I cannot slow cook, or smoke anything for shit...

I did all that I could to keep the ribs on the pit and smoking without burning... but with such a small pit it's almost impossible....

The meal turned out VERY good, I seasoned the ribs very well, and basted them with a combination of DR.Pepper and BBQ sauce. (First time I ever tried this combination, I usually "sop" my BBQ with a combination of Garlic Butter, BBQ sauce, Lea & Perrins, Onions, and Italian Dressing), and that gave the ribs VERY good falvor, but I did not get the smoke wanted...... It just cannot be done on a weber.

i'd be curious to try the dr.pepper idea. i don't have access to a smoker so i usually just make a dry rub and wrap the ribs in foil. i slow cook them in the oven for about 3 hours than finish them off on the b-que while smothering them in sweet baby rays. i would like to attend a rib convention anywhere if they have one. tongue.gif

Burgers tonight! I'm having a salad on the side but the boys and husband will get fries.

Sometimes ya just gotta feast on a hamburger.

With mayo, mustard, ketchup, red onion, pickles and lettuce. Cheese and bacon, of course. Totally goes without saying.

Hehehe! I haven't had spam in forever! I think it was only once, but I remember not minding it (what does that say about my taste)! tongue.gif

And ReflectedLight, they do have rib conventions...a band I used to follow played a ribfest in...I think it was Reno, Nevada at a casino...wish I could remember which one. Do a search under ribfest and I'm sure several'll come up.
