The Official Iron Maiden Thread

My second favorite band after Rush. The material they came out with from 1982-1988 is fantastic and is one of my favorite album streaks ever done by a band. The 90s was a shakey time for them though since they changed musical directions and Bruce left for awhile to do a solo career. Since he's come back in 2000 they've put out some really great stuff as well. One of the few bands that I think writes stuff today that's on par with their classic material. I like the old stuff better but there's no doubt that Maiden has been pushing themselves to do the best job possible with their last four albums.

As far as favorite songs go, much like Rush i've got far too many ones I love so it's hard to pick.

My favorite songs off each album:

Iron Maiden -- Phantom Of The Opera

Killers -- Murders In The Rue Morgue

The Number Of The Beast -- Hallowed Be Thy Name

Piece Of Mind -- Where Eagles Dare and To Tame A Land

Powerslave -- Rime Of The Ancient Mariner

Somewhere In Time -- Caught Somewhere In Time

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son -- Moonchild and Infinite Dreams

No Prayer For The Dying -- Run Silent Run Deep

Fear Of The Dark -- Be Quick Or Be Dead

The X Factor -- The Sign Of The Cross

Virtual XI -- Lightining Strikes Twice

Brave New World -- Ghost Of The Navigator

Dance Of Death -- Paschendale

A Matter Of Life And Death -- Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

The Final Frontier -- Mother Of Mercy

All of the albums from the Bruce Dickinson years are fantastic - not that he was the deciding factor in making them fantastic. I give the credit for the awesomeness of the band to the songwriting of Steve Harris and Adrian Smith. Their lyrics are particularly great - full of literary references.

My favorite songs include:

The Number of the Beast

Run to the Hills

Flight of Icarus

The Trooper

To Tame a Land

Aces High

Caught Somewhere in Time

The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner

Stranger in a Strange Land

Deja Vu

Can I Play With Madness?

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Maiden was my first concert ever. World Slavery Tour 1985. It is as impossible to list a favorite song as it is to list a Rush tune. Right now, it is probably Still Life, though it is often something off the first album or Killers.

I'm a big Maiden fan, I can't say I have a "favorite" Maiden song or album. I have a huge collection of Maiden vinyl, unfortunately, The Soundhouse Tapes is not among them. I have 7 and 12 inch singles on black vinyl, picture discs and, shaped discs. One of the most sought after pieces in my collection is the shaped "The Trooper" single. Back when I was collecting, I shopped at a record store who's owner fed my bad collecting habit, if he could get his hands on something, he usually set it aside to see if I was interested before he put it in the bins. I wish I had been more into collecting Rush vinyl back then, who knows what I would have in my collection these days...?

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" is probably my favorite but there are so many good songs from these guys.

Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave is a fantastic 3 album runs. one of the best of all time. few bands could put out such good and consistent albums in a row like Maiden.
