It sounded embarrassing for Geddy whatever way the story went. There does seem to be some kind of history there...but a fight in a bar ?! Surely not? I had no idea about this. something cool I noticed in this youtube clip of pleasure dome. scroll down the list of related videos... the bottom one on the page! I'm also seeing a couple versions of this tune with drum solos... Seriously? That's about as close a comparison as Eric Johnson and Laurie Berkner. Not only are they not in the same ballpark, they're not even in the same galaxy. As for the dislike between the two bands, does anyone really think that these two bands would be best buddies? Seriously? VH was literally fueled by Jack Daniels and cocaine while, even from the mouth of Gene Simmons, Rush were pretty boring on the road. EVH broke a lot of ground in the guitar world. Is he all hype? I don't think so, but I think there are far better guys out there (Johnson and Rhodes being tops on my list). I don't think Eddie ever grasped the concept of staying within the melody and trying to play a solo that fit a song. He would just seemingly shred for 20 seconds in every song then go back to the melody where if you listen to Rhodes' solo on a song like Flying High Again, he tears it up but stays within the song. Does anyone hear something a little different when Alex plays a particular chord? EVH is all chops and fast and technically proficient. Alex Lifeson is all about feel and emotion in his playing.
