I really like the Wal too mortkort. It took quite a long time to find one.

Snowman, I think Geddy got his best sound with his Rickenbackers too.

Thanks for the welcome folks.

Nice to see so many Norwegians (I work for a Norwegian company).

very nice bass gb77!

i'm not a bass player, but i do know ampeg makes good amps

maybe you should check out LowDown by Line 6, you can listen to it on their website, it has effects and stuff in it, but you are maybe looking for a amp without effects? since you got that multi effect for x-mas.

good luck!

As you can see, the hardware is black. I bought it from a guy who changed all the hardware, including the bolt around the output. The tuner for the E-string has a D-drop. I like that, considering that I can play Driven correctly now!

I wonder if I'm gonna switch back to the old hardware, but now I have something not so many people have, and I kinda like it... But one thing's for sure: I'll never regret that I bought this guitar! 1022.gif trink39.gif

For amps, I'd recommend anything from the Ashdown ABM range (or possibly the new Klystron Classic range).

How are you finding the Boss GT6B? I've been wondering about getting one for something I have coming up where I need a bit of phase/delay/chorus etc..

I got mine off of eBay brand new for half the price that my music store would have charged me to order it. About $200 I believe it was. If you can't find a good one there check out http://www.musiciansfriend.com

Cheers for that.

What I really meant was what have been your experiences in using it so far? Can you give some idea of what you think of it in terms of sound quality, ease of use, etc.?

Thanks

Oh, im sorry.

I'm not that big of an effects user but I find it to sound very good. I use the phaser (what Roger Water's uses most of the time) pretty much all the time, and some delay here or there (One Of These Days 1022.gif ). I use my guitar with it as well and it sounds surprisingly nice (good chorus and flange)!

As for how easy it is to use, good luck! The instructions don't help so much (but who reads those anyways!). It is quite the foreign looking piece of technology and will take a lot of toying around to learn how to use. After the first few days, however, you can run it in your sleep!

The preamp is pretty effective, I have yet to play around with that to geddy's distorted sound. The preamp is also a nice add on so you can use it for recording on the computer.

Hope this helps!

That's exactly the info I was after. Thanks.

Spooky that you should even mention the very song I was thinking of when I asked the question (one of the things I would be playing would be 'One of These Days').

I've only been posting on *this* Rush forum for a couple of weeks, and somehow i missed this Bass Guitar sub-forum!

Hello fellow bass players! bekloppt.gif

Awesome to look through the thread and see & read about everbody's cool gear. (Jon- nice WAL bass! drool1.gif )

I have:

1x Ibanez SR-5000-SA w/ circa 1988 EMG pickups (natural)

1x Ibanez SR-1000 w/ EMG pickups (laser blue)

1x G&L L-2000 (translucent butterscotch)

1x Kubicki X-Factor (repainted piano black)

plus... 1x modified fing.gif G.Lee Signature Fender Jazz

Someone back there (sorry!) has a modified G.Lee signature they bought 2nd hand and it's similar to the one i just bought! I found one 2nd hand also with a HipShot D-tuner, a dual-concentric tone knob, a mirrored light-blue WD Products Std Jazz Bass pickguard, and get this- under the pickguard is a badly routed battery compartment for the on-board preamp! I brought it to the luthier i know here outside of Toronto, and he confirmed it was an EMG preamp and that the pickups were the original vintage '62 Fenders. The concentric tone was for mid-range freq & boost-cut. He also said, "that's the worst-looking battery compartment i've ever seen!" 062802puke_prv.gif It DOES look terrible.

The preamp & hipshot can be removed, but the re-drilled pickguard holes & the gouged-out battery compartment has wrecked any chance of the bass becoming "original" again. A bass friend of mine has a Fender Jazz with an active preamp hooked up to old passive J-bass pickups & it sounds amazing.

I could return it to being as original as possible, or i could go with the preamp idea. What do you think i should do?
