Bass Players!

I've officially fallen in love with the Deluxe American Jazz Bass. Unless something else makes me drool as much between now and when I have a grand to blow, that will be my next bass.

The thick P-Bass neck with the maple fretboard makes my fingers happy.

Though I did play an Epi Thunderbird and liked it a lot. I'll have to check out the Gibson model if I find one.

Does anyone know a good but economical fuzzbox for a bass? I think my old and beat-up Squier P-Bass needs some effects.

Well, it's cheaper than a black one. But that is stupid money for an instrument. You can't find Ric's for reasonable prices anymore. I like their instruments but they are a f***ed up company. Guitar Center won't carry them because the warranty starts once the guitar reaches the store. So if it sits in the store for a year the customer buys a guitar with no warranty. That is crap!

I just bought a 360 12 used from a woman whose former boyfriend bought it and left it behind after moving to Australia several years ago. She didn't know what she had, didn't care or whatever and took the $1k I offered. She wasn't looking to sell it really but a mutual friend heard that I was looking for one. You can't find one anywhere for less that $2100 so we were both happy with the deal. I paid $600 6 years ago for my 4001 from my friend who got in '86 for $400. I just can't see spending more than a grand for a Ric of any kind.

Also that is a 4 + 6 model, not a 12 string.

Well, 4080/12s are extremely hard to come by (I should know - I spent a long time looking for one). It's estimated that fewer than 30 were produced, and with probably less than 200 4080s in existence whether 6 or 12 string, it's still a fairly collectable instrument even in a six string version. Obviously I feel a lot better about how much I spent on mine if market prices stay high. wink.gif

In the early 80's there was a white 4080 12 in a local store. I think it was around $1k at the time. Back when money was worth something.

I agree... fortunately, I bought my current Ric (1977 4001S in Jetglo) for $400.00 USD... however, this was a few years back (1993)...

My new rig is absolutly awesome.

Amps: Fender Bass Amlification Rumble 100 hooked up with a Fender Rumble 25 for a half stack. Really good sound, I can get nice lows and some nice highs with some adjusting.

Basses: Squier Jazz Bass Fretless, feels amazing on my fingers, and an old Memphis Percision Bass which plays very well, even though a million years old. The highs and the Memphis are absolutly stunning to my ears I think at least.

Effects: Heavy Metal HM-2 Distortion Pedals, its for guitars, but I use it anyway because it works fine for my bass.

I love my half stack. I gotta post some picks soon.

Yesterday I got my Squier Affinity Jazz Bass-Set. It's also including a 15W amp and some stuff you need to get started. The color is some dark metallic blue, which I use to call "midnight blue".

I LOVE IT!!! wub.gif common001.gif

Well, the last two weeks I was seriously thinking about what I want to play, bass or guitar... or both. Well I guess I'll end up with both, but I WANTED that bass so bad (already have a guitar but had no bass). So I bought it. And now I'm practising and it's a lot of fun. new_thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

One thing I like more about the bass than the guitar is that you play it with fingers and I still hate picks... seriously I hate them.

And I'd never thought playing the bass would be so much like "workout" for my arms and fingers. But I think I'll get used to it... it was also hard to play the guitar 2 months ago and now it's much easier. smile.gif

My Violent Violet... she needs surgery. The plug where you plug in the patch cord is loose and the sound keeps cutting out. Should I be expecting to fork over a lot to repair this problem?

Probably not, it may just need soldering.......you can take the jack out and should be able to see if the wires need re-soldering.......

There is not much internally on any bass or guitar that can't be fixed with a pair of pliers and a soldering gun. I know it's not for everyone to do it yourself but i'm sure you could find a layout of it online and be able to do it yourself. I can understand why people don't really want to though.

Thanks! It's a short scale bass cause my hands are quite small so I hope I can fix her cause I havent had much luck finding many other short scale basses.

Thanks guys.. I really dont wanna make matters worse so I migth have to bring it in to Steve's and see what they can do. It's just so annoying trying to play it only to have the sound keep cutting out. angry.gif
