Pale Saints

Cranes

plus

Enya

Suzanne Vega

Journey

Kate Bush

Peter Gabriel

some jazz, classical, new age.

Thanks for saying those before I did. I love those people too. And, still not over Mike's death. It was so painful for me. sad.gif

I'll place one that is not there, Lady Gaga.

I'm a huge Jaco fan. trink39.gif

I've got all his solo albums (official albums plus a few imports), all his stuff with Weather Report, all his stuff with Joni, and Pat Metheny's Bright Size Life.

I'm more of a Prog/Generalist Rock kind of guy but I have a considerable amount stuff that I like that are not like Rush

Here's some of my Alternative, Grunge, Metal, and other forms of Rock that I listen too...

Black Sabbath (The Dio Years album only)

Foo Fighters

Iron Maiden

Linkin Park

Nine Inch Nails (The Fragile album only)

Nirvana

Opeth

Sonata Arctica

And here's some of the stuff that's a cross between rock and pop IMO, the last two bands were really short lived because a core member from each of those bands joined Oasis shortly afterwards

Blur

Oasis

Japan

Gorillaz

Ride

Heavy Stereo

There's even more stuff than this, but my list it too long to fit in here.....

Godflesh

Bauhaus

Siouxsie and the Banshees

The Cure

The Alarm

Joy Division

The Ramones

Guided By Voices

Blackmore's Night

almost everything. Other than Floyd and Porcupine Tree I don't listen to anything that would remotely be considered "prog rock" even though I would not label Rush as such. I used to listen to a lot of metal but nowadays I find myself listening to indie and eclectic stuff.

Right now I'm using Progarchives as a way of exploring prog more and more in-depth, especially Canterbury.

Since progressive rock also included Rush, most of what I listen to is fairly Rush-ish, you could say.

However I listen to a TON of Cat Stevens, easily my favorite non-rock artist..

I also like (but don't always listen to)..

Peter, Paul, and Mary

Jim Croce

Simon and Garfunkel

and some other folk stuff my parents like smile.gif

Since it's widely hated among a lot of people here as I've noticed, some hip hop which is mostly old school:

Public Enemy

Wu-Tang

Nas

N.W.A.

Dr. Dre

Notorious B.I.G.

Outkast

Beastie Boys

A decade ago, I got into a lot of classic alternative and new wave bands like The Cure,Police,Duran Duran,Psychedelic Furs,Smiths, etc. to name a few when I started college and I was listening to a lot of 90s alternative/grunge in my teen years.

I also have a weakness for not just the singer/songwriter types (Petty,Dylan,Springsteen,Young, etc.) but the California roots rock sound since I've lived in SoCal my whole life. Kind of explains why I've been listening to Dawes lately.

As far as current music goes:

Black Keys

Dawes

Florence + The Machine

Alicia Keys

Cee Lo Green

Arcade Fire

Airborne Toxic Event

I like good pop music, like The Cars, and The Cure.

I also like good old 80's bombast, like U2 and The Alarm.

The Alarm is one my favourite bands, you need to check out "Under Attack" from 2007...one of my top 10 album releases of all time.
