Snakes and Arrows

This CD is still hanging on as one of Rush's better CDs with me. I hadn't played it in a while and I found myself singing along to most songs today as I listened.

Thought I'd share that.

Half the album rocks, while the other half wallows in mediocrity.

Mediocre Rush is still 10X better than most bands, thats the sad part laugh.gif

I've always liked S&A, since it's the album that came out when i started getting into Rush. Also, I usually drum along to most of it since it's not a particularly hard album, but still gives a good workout.

Also, I recently started getting into Workin' Them angels. tongue.gif It's actually a great song smile.gif

I still love this album, though I haven't listened to it in awhile now.

One thing that is to be said with S&A is that it really feels "front-loaded", as in, all of the strongest tracks are up front (Far Cry through The Way The Wind Blows).

That side one is awesome...and really rocks. One of their best in a long time. With that said, it does seem to disrupt the flow of the album somewhat, because it tends to lose some steam in the later half.

I love/like all of the tracks, but those first 7, coupled with MalNar and a personal favourite 'Good News First' are the strongest of the bunch!

But yes, great album! 1022.gif

To me, it has the three song string that I really, really dig.

The Way the Wind Blows -> Hope -> Faithless

Armor and Sword

Workin' them Angels

Spindrift

Main Monkey Business

Bravest Face

Good New First (one of my favorites from the album 1022.gif)

Malignant Narcissism

We hold On

and sometimes Hope and Faithless trink38.gif

Mine would be

Everything but Spindrift laugh.gif

other than that, as someone else said, the album is rather "frontloaded" with Far Cry, Workin Then Angels, Armor and Sword, TWTWB and TMMB all in the first 7 songs. Wow. MalNar and We Hold On aren't too shabby as a closeout either cool.gif

I also dig Bravest Face because it's a change of pace, with Geddy even throwing in a touch of blues on the vocals at the end.

I was watching Warehouse 13 the other day, there was a scene where one of the main characters noted it ("Best Rush album since Roll The Bones"...though Counterparts is better I think)

I got the urge to listen to it. I agree

"Snakes and Arrows rocks."

I don't understand the hate Spindrift gets, but I agree with the general feeling on The Larger Bowl.

and

The Main Monkey Business is the best instrumental since La Villa Strangiato (yes I like it more than YYZ)

Bravest Face joins Cut To The Chase as songs they should play live, but for some reason don't (and Jacob's Ladder, but it's been done live before)

Yes, mediocre Rush is still 10X better than most bands, but that's a reason to be glad, not sad.

If your favorite band's best music wasn't half as good as the mediocre music of most other bands, that would be a reason to be sad. wink.gif

Life is good: Rush in September, Buddy Guy in October.
