Jack Aubrey
I have to tell you folks, I am blessed! I was talking to my good friend John yesterday and he said that he was planning on getting a new XBox 360. I asked him if they were still selling them with HD-DVD or if they now had Blu-Ray. He told me they'd changed them to Blu-Ray. Then he got a thoughtful look on his face and asked if I had a Blu-Ray player. I replied that I hadn't gotten one yet and was still making do with an upconverting player. He told me that since he had a PS3 and was going to be getting an XBox he wouldn't need the Sony Blu-Ray player he bought 4 months ago. He looked at me and asked if I wanted it. I was like: "are you kidding?! Heck yeah!" So he ran home, grabbed it, and brought it to me. What a guy! A couple of hours later, I ran down to Best Buy and got this, my first Blu-ray movie: http://images.barnesandnoble.com/images/16030000/16039602.jpg Life is good! I couldn't help but notice an inconsistency with the repackaging of FMJ. The "Born To Kill" helmet was worn by Joker. But Joker wasn't the M60 gunner, Animal Mother was. Anyway... so how was this classic flick in Blu-glory?
The Owl
I've had a Blu-ray player for over a year now (in the form of a PS3) and a handful of Blu-ray titles........ sadly I do not have a HDTV...at the moment. .........at least I've been able to enjoy the superior sound quality. Snowdog
Just a quick note of clarification: The new Xbox 360s DO NOT have Blu Ray capability. So if you want a gaming system AND a Blu Ray player in one unit, the PS3 is still your only choice.

Presto-digitation
Great job Jack. I'm a recent convert myself. Still own very few Blus, but so long as I can play my DVDs on it as well, no harm done. Slowly starting to replace some key titles that demand better quality. Jack Aubrey
QUOTE (Alex @ Aug 9 2010, 09:10 AM) Congrats man. Blu-Ray is amazing. I hope you have a wicked sound system set up too! A JVC receiver and Bose speakers! My Mother-in-law won the speakers in a raffle at work. A year and a half after she won them, she needed some money so we loaned it to her. After I realized that she had kept the speakers stored for all that time and never touched them, I told her that if she gave me the speakers we'd call it even. She did so (and she wasn't even upset, she was delighted she didn't have to worry about raising the money to pay us back, bless her) and I've been using the heck out of them ever since. And yes, what we loaned her was the approximate value of the speakers, so it all evened out nicely.

Right now I'm just planning on buying titles I don't already have but later on I think I'm going to have to convince the wife (wish me luck) that I "need" the Blu-Ray versions of Master and Commander and Blade Runner to start! There are also some bargains on older movies if you shop around. I got The Wild Bunch at Best Buy yesterday for only $12!

workingcinderellaman
I love my blu-ray player. I got it for Christmas last year. The only problem now is availability and buying cheap movies. I figure DVD's have about two years until they are in the minority, then we should see discounted blu-ray movies.
