jonfiredaman02 Posted July 16, 2010 Share Posted July 16, 2010 Usually they use sampled backup harmonies from Geddy, and Alex just sings probably because he likes it. You can see him mouthing the words a lot even when he's not "singing." However, there have been occasions where his mic was turned on, there's a video on Youtube of him singing backup on Freewill, and the recording of Show Don't Tell on Different stages has him very clearly singing during the verses. Its true, he is not very loud in the mix, but even on Snakes and Arrows live, you can hear him a little. R30 he is there also, but Rush in Rio is the most notable for being able to hear him. That statement is so sad really. Since that Freewill video was at a multiple band show, I bet the sound guys didn't know Alex's mic is usually so low (why would they?). So they gave him a normal backup singers level. I don't care if he can sing or not, I can listen to the record to hear him NOT SING, so live...sure sing it up big al.
