Astromancer
(I couldn't decide whether to put this here, or in Video Vertigo, and I'm sorry if I chose incorrectly) I'm asking those of you who have read the amazingness that is the Dark Tower series to post your opinion on the ideal cast for a movie. Please no Vigo Mortinson as Roland, that's a fail.
briremo
Ha! I clicked on this link thinking VM would be perfect for that role! As an alternative I'd take Mickey Rourke. Yeah, kinda old and smarmy, not the dashing young swashbuckler one might imagine. How about the tall good looking guy from "The Hangover" He might pull it off. Ghostnotes
Best series of books i have ever read hands down.......................tough one. Funny thing is, I don't know how many king fans i know who have not read these or worse....they don't even know they exist or that it was actually his first book. Sorry It's going to have to be a multi part movie, there is absolutely no way all of this could even fit into 2 three hour movies.
Graham_W
A younger Clint. I can't imagine Roland as anyone else. Though I guess King himself would probably go for Randolph Scott, but he will be the Elroy Thing to me forever.
ghostworks
QUOTE (Graham_W @ Sep 10 2010, 10:20 AM)A younger Clint. I can't imagine Roland as anyone else. ^ + 1,000 always thought that, and it's a damn shame King wasn't born in 1927 so that he could've written the Dark Tower from 1957 to 1984 (then Eastwood would've still been able to pull it off)
theredtamasrule
Hmm...so many nancy boys in Hollywood nowadays, not many with the cool badassery of Clint. Christian Bale? Josh Brolin?
MusicHead
Clive Owen as Roland Deschain. That would rule.
udanax
I think the girl who plays Tara (Rutina Wesley) on True Blood would make a brilliant Detta/Odetta/Susanah Dean. However it might seem sort of like she would sort of be playing the same role twice, and a lot of actors like to have more diversity in their roles. http://www.latoursombre.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/susannah-dean.jpg http://true-blood.net/gallery/albums/cast-season%202/normal_TrueBlood_RutinaWesley_Season2_001.jpg As for Roland Deschain I truly have no idea who they would cast, however MTV also likes going the True Blood route by saying that Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) would be a good choice. I could see that happening. I always imagined that Roland's accent would be some variation of a southern, maine, accent, and Stephen certainly does well at playing a tormented character. He also has those crazy blue eyes. However if they cast one person from True Blood they probably shouldn't cast two. I could see Hugh Laurie doing the role of Roland Deschain as well. In fact, Hugh Laurie might be a better pick, simply because he is older. Viggo Mortenson is also on my list for good Roland characters. However, if I was just basing this on looks, I would say Stephen Moyer hands down wins. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_fQWrDdHcHpc/S7YmM8pFTxI/AAAAAAAAAII/IzpKrXP6hOQ/s1600/300px-Dark_Tower_The_Gunslinger_Born_3.jpg http://www.examiner.com/images/blog/EXID14262/images/Stephen_Moyer.jpg http://www.cinecultist.com/archives/041110_hugh_laurie_11a.widec.jpg http://www.thecheapchick.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/viggo_mortensen1.jpg I don't know who would make a good Eddie Dean. A lot of people are saying Shia Labeouf would be good in the role, and though I could see that, he seems a bit too young for me. http://coolt.blog.br/site/images/stories/eddie_dean.jpg http://media.onsugar.com/files/ons1/192/1922507/26_2009/0f721c5bf8e7512a_shia-labeouf.jpg I could see Dakota Fanning in the role of Susan Delgado. She's almost too old for it though. Emma Watson would be good too, but she's also getting too old, and is probably sick of doing anything franchise related by now. Amanda Syefired also has the right look, but she is way over the age limit as far as Susan's character goes. http://media.comicvine.com/uploads/0/40/134531-79371-susan-delgado_large.jpg http://www.whitegoldthemovie.com/images/dakota_fanning.jpg http://topnews.in/light/files/Emma-Watson_1.jpg http://static.reelmovienews.com/images/gallery/amanda-seyfried-picture.jpg Edited September 12, 2010 by udanax
RushHour
I think it would be cool if Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki played Eddie.
A Farewell to Things
I would say either Jared Leto or Milo Ventimiglia as Eddie.

Though I guess King himself would probably go for Randolph Scott, but he will be the Elroy Thing to me forever. I always imagined Eastwood as Roland. Probably because the illustrations in The Dark Tower looked so much like him. Plus, SK's description of him put me in mind of a (much) younger Eastwood. Then there's this movie poster: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e4/Fistful_Macaroni.jpg
