Spicy peppers and such. It’s easy enough to avoid if one doesn’t like that.

Yeah, Korea can be hot as hell. And in winter, cold as hell. Hell! :blaze:

I thought the presentation on the CSI:NY episode was that it was a soup or entree, although the type of course was not specifically spoken of. It was, however very expensive in NY restaraunts that served it.

First, it IS a soup.

Second, the dish you’re talking about and what I ate are different.

Third, what you’re talking about (I’m 90% sure) is Chinese, not Korean.

Fourth, Hollywood man...can’t trust that shit.

And I believe it was a Chinese dish, made with a Cave Swallow's nest which was made of nest material and bird spit [to make the nest stay together] but the chinese had made it into a type of dish. This is definitely a dish of the South east asia The countries of Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, etc. and the word dessert had been used, as well as Soup.

From the site I visited, from SE Asia, Korea was included as one of the places...anyway, I understand what you're saying, JB! While it was mentioned as a Delicacy in China and so, very expensive in NY city...

Well, our mini vacation in a cabin on a creek in Watkins Glen/Montour Falls turned into an emergency evacuation at 4:30 am! There was flash flooding and we had to wade through thigh high water with our stuff in our arms. We are home safe now but this video was taken just next to where we were staying. A few of my own pics also.

That’s right!

“You want MOOOORE bird spit?!!!!”

Apparently, the nest is held together by the spit and when put in a soup it (of course) melts and gives it the flavor. Yay bird spit flavored soup!

The thing is that those birds are endangered and when you’re taking those nests...well, you get the picture.

Asia, Southeast Asia in particular, has never been particularly ecologically conscious. Many of the rich in the Far East and Southeast Asia will buy something into extinction without a second thought.

Though this isn’t like the bird’s nest soup and wasn’t about the rich, have you ever read about the dragon ((dinosaur)) bones used as medicine? Interesting.

I bet it's because the people selling it are making a killing, and won't stop until the market dries up.

I don’t think so. There’s hundreds of years worth of history there dating back to aristocracy eating it.

I’d guess it’s ridiculously expensive for these reasons: the rarity of it, the dangers of getting it, and partly due to that history I just mentioned.

The endangered angle should be enough to put people off of consumption but that almost certainly won’t happen.

Vacationing in the KY/Cincinnati area last week, mostly to see cousins and old friends, whose children grew up calling me "Uncle".

Today, those kids are all grown up, and their kids (like this special little girl named Dakota) are now calling me "Uncle".

Me and my wonderfully beautiful girlfriend during one of our three (and her first!) Dead & Company show at Riverbend this past June. Believe it or not, she hates having her picture taken and I got her at just the right moment (I believe during They Love Each Other)!
