IwillchooseFreeWill
Tories, by Thomas B Allen, since I have a few in my family tree. The Hydrogen Sonata by Iain M Banks, his last Culture novel before he died. As all the other novels in the series, it is weird, witty, and slightly twisted. vaportrailer
Going through these right now... :) http://mec.imgix.net/medias/sys_master/high-res/high-res/8815703588894/5050112-NOC02.jpg?w=500&h=500&auto=format&q=40&fit=fill&bg=FFFhttp://dynamic.indigoimages.ca/books/1741798450.jpg?altimages=true&scaleup=true&maxheight=515&width=380&quality=85&sale=23&lang=en Buy them in either country from a street seller for $2. You likely already know they're pirated copies but if you're ok with that.... Very true, and you can usually find them for around 4$ in the 2nd hand stores.I don't travel with one anymore, usually picking up a 2nd hand or bootleg copy when I'm there. The damn things are heavy!Plus Lonely Planet has sadly gone for the money so most of the Asian guidebooks are about finding boutique hotels and Italian food and suggesting pretentious things to do. The old editions are full of detailed food and cultural info, with better maps than the modern editions.Moon has a great old (2009) Cambodia guidebook. The LP Thai book from '97 is stupidly good. The LP Indonesia/Bali books since 2003 are sad, with their Java book disappearing entirely. It's all about the best vantage point for gin and tonics, which is fine information, but very 1930s.Even though their maps suck and typos abound, Rough Guides at least try. Oh for sure those maps totally suck. And correct spelling is extremely crucial in places where English is a second (or even barely existent) language. I can't tell you how many times I've helped out English speaking tourists out here when I overhear them getting directions from native locals. The natives are doing their best to help out (with English that just isn't enough) BUT with the shit spelling on the maps that the travelers sometimes have + the CORRECT pronunciation of the natives, the travelers don't think they're being given the correct destination or directions. I have to interrupt and clarify that the spoken directions ARE correct (usually) but the map is actually shit. I leave out the use of the word "shit" though. ;)

I have trouble with one(depending on the book). All four of these are new listings in our library system, which usually means you go on a wait list to borrow the book, and when you do get it, it's for a two week period. However, 3 of these were on the shelf and available for loan, so you grab them when you can. I went there to pick up The Cuban Affair, for which I was on the wait list for 3 weeks. Hot best sellers, and DVD's of movies and cable series make for some l o n g wait lists. The missus had a 6 week wait for the DVD set of the 1st season of Orange Is The New Black. But four books? No big deal, I read a lot of books, and some of them the wife reads too.
New_World_Man
I remember my uncle(who has a PHD in Philosophy)said the most number of books he read at the same time was five. I would think reading more than one fiction book at the same time could get confusing. Maybe not.

I am really enjoying this account by the very funny Canadian, Will Ferguson. blueschica
Stephen Meyer's Signature In The Cell About half way through .... Amazing and incredibly well researched book on the scientific evidence for intelligent design It sounds interesting! I might have to take a look although on the whole I'm not real big on intelligent design. Too many people are not rigorous enough about the science part and it undermines the whole idea. If the science is good, though, it sounds like a good read!

vaportrailer
Spike: An Intimate Memoir by Norma Farnes Good bio of Spike Milligan by his manager. Some brutal stories and some great quotes.Someone compared the sometimes difficult Milligan with the sometimes (oft times?) difficult Peter Sellers, coming to the conclusion that "at least Milligan has a heart". Not one mention of Monty Python or any solo Pythons...An interesting read about a manic-depressive comedian.
