theredtamasrule
Urth of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe...this series of books, Book of the New Sun & UoNS is without question the most maddening rabbit hole I've ever had the misfortune of falling into. Wolfe, while a literary genius with masterful command of language writes in such an obtuse fashion that it's damned hard to figure out just what the hell is going on. The books are a series of episodes revolving around the, presumably, main character Severian the Torturer as he makes his way around a very far in the future earth. That's a very simple outline of something that is nearly incomprehensible. I have spent more time googling these books to try and piece together what exactly is taking place. Very. Odd.
catherine
I finished Invisible Man which was much more comprehensible than Absalom, Absalom. LOL! I plan to read Beloved by Toni Morrison when my library copy comes available. I feel the need for a bit of lighter reading so maybe it's time for Pillars of the Earth re-read now.
Rhyta
Just finished A Study in Darkness by Emma Jane Holloway. Steampunky mystery with Sherlock Holmes niece. Beginning the new Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs Silence Fallen, really do like this series. Also listened to Orange is the New Black. Very underwhelmed, don't know what all the hoopla was about. Oh I know (could it be naughty bits with girls?) Haven't watched the show and don't intend to. Relistening to Tiger in the Well, 3rd in the Sally Lockhart series by Philip Pullman (of Golden Compass fame). Guess I am on a Victorian kick right now.

blueschica
Me, the Mob, and the Music: One Helluva Ride with Tommy James and the Shondells- Tommy James and Martin Fitzpatrick It was very interesting! Tommy James was the guy who wrote and sang the original Mony Mony hit. His manager, Morris Levy, was part of a mob crime family. Tommy never saw a dime beyond touring expenses for years. . . . Lucas
Cause I'm a sick puppy... Union, if you are at all interested in this case and haven't already done so, I would recommend this book - it was written by Mary Capps, who was Rader's secretary for six years ... The book is her experience working for him, and while she is not a professional writer, it is really worth reading ... I may need a small sabbatical from him before I read this one. But it is definitely going on my list.
