Sounds like it's shaping up to be a fantastic night!  cant wait!!!

and, um, Natch?  I thought all the good NJ hotels were on Route 1, no?

Are you referring to the hotels up near the airport? Too far from the venue, methinks.

If it were me, I'd stay at the Marriott Courtyard right in Lincroft, which is literally about a 5 minute ride to PNC.

I'll be there...my first time seeing Rush front row, section 103...very excited, to say the least!

Met some great people on both PNC Snakes and Arrows shows (2007/2008).

Would love to get there a bit early for some pre-show hanging out.

Does anyone know what PNC plans on doing about opening time for parking this year?

I would imagine they'll do the same they did the last couple of years. They banned tailgating altogether at certain shows that are categorized as drawing "younger" crowds, in an effort to minimize underage drinking.

As for the Rush show, in 2008, they opened up the parking lot a couple of hours before the show. Anyone who showed up before then was turned away. I tried to get in early, but wasn't allowed.

A bunch of us from TRF were planning to meet there beforehand, but had an alternate location ready. The alternate was the TGI Friday's in Hazlet. When we arrived at the TGI Friday's, there were a few other Rush fans there. It wasn't crowded at all, and was perfect for a meetup.

EDIT: I should add that they didn't have a problem with hanging out in the parking lot once they did open the lots. If you're going to bring beer, bring cups to hide it, and the cops won't give you a hard time.

Thanks Natch...can't plan too early, right?

I was thinking that maybe because it is Labor Day Weekend, that the venue might open the lots a bit earlier due to traffic.

I'll keep the Friday's site in mind as well.

Well, I'll keep an eye out for any announcements regarding the tailgating policy, and post it here.

As for the party in the gas station parking lot, it was one of the more memorable times I've ever had at a concert meetup.

I called PNC and asked if they'll be opening the lots early, as it is the beginning of Labor Day Weekend adn the woman who I spoke to said it is something they are considering, but no decision had been made yet.

If I hear any updates, I'll be sure to post it here.

Hey Everyone...

I just spoke to someone from the Arts Center management and she said, they have no plans to open the lots early.

The lots will be open 2 hours before the show begins.

She did recommend a park nearby to hang out at before the gig.

She said food/picnic would be fine, but no drinking is allowed in the park.

So, I'm thinking we'll go down early hang at the park for while, play some frisbee and have something to eat and then head over the lots at first opportunity.

Only 71 days to the big rock show!!!

~Cheers, RGLT

I really want to get excited about this one, but I'm afraid we all need to be a bit more realistic about the chances of tailgating @ PNC....

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r268/drcrider/debbie_downer.jpg

In '07 on the first leg of the S&A tour, PNC was about as accomodating a venue as you could hope to find. For the July 8th show (it was a Sunday) the lot was wide open when I drove up at noon with my friends and a 1/4 keg, 2 grills and a party tent. Despite the 98 degree temperature, it was one of the more memorable Rush tailgates I have been a part of. There were flank steaks, there were chicken kebabs, sausage, seafood and a few meet-ups with some folks from TRF....it was so good that we almost missed the opening song.

In '08 (almost a year to the day, actually) the second leg was on a beautiful and warm Saturday, July 12th. Many of us had been at Pagscon (I'm gonna start crying if I think about it too long)...and the show was the culmination of an incredible weekend of fun, friends and partying. The show was important, of course, but the tailgate was really just vital so we could all congregate, and amp up for the "icing" on what was just a very memorable summer weekend. However, the Ozzfest debacle had cast a lot of doubt on whether or not venues like PNC would open their lots and allow tailgating, and even in the weeks leading up to the show, a solid answer could NOT be gotten out of the PNC ticket office, their website, or any number posted for the Arts Center information center. Several people tried calling, including myself. The answer was "The PNC Arts Center reserves the right to make a day of show decision, per artist, as to what time the lots will open". Pretty much crap right there, when you consider folks driving 1, 2, 3 or more than 4 hours just to get there.

I have a good friend who lives in Marlboro, NJ, about 25 minutes from the venue. On the day before, I called him from Pags' place and asked him if he could check out the Stevie Nicks show, happening the day before the Rush show. He drove by at 2pm and texted me saying that the lot was full of cars tailgating. Awesome, I thought. Okay, Rush fans arent fossils, but we arent going to light cars on fire and go 'wilding' either...For whatever reason, this made me hopeful.

The big deal for some of us was more in terms of bringing food, coolers, and bbq gear, of course. I didnt want to trek to PNC with 20 lbs of uncooked meat, grills and coolers if the gates werent going to open until an hour before showtime. So we agreed that 3pm would be a safe middle ground. Not too late if it is open to get our tailgate on, and not too early in the event we get turned away. On the way down the Garden State Parkway, I got a text from my friend who said he saw the signs over the Parkway that said the lots would open at 6pm, an hour before posted show time.

Crap.

So what a great strategy, seeing as how the entrances to PNC are restricted to only the Garden State Parkway, a 65mph state highway....hey, I know, lets close the lots until 6pm but not really tell anyone until they get here... It'll be great fun to watch all these cars come screeching to a halt and be told to TURN AROUND and go away. Yeah, f***ing awesome. I was headed south, now I'm going north again. Sweet! Big Ben, Parliament!

Youre damn right I'm rambling.

Look, in the end it was all good. People laughed. A minivan broke down. An Exxon station was invaded by 25 TRF'ers and we f***ing turned it into our tailgate, ok?. The show went on. It was

memorable.

But I'm not banking (haha) on a tailgate at PNC Bank Center. I'm parking my stuff next to the pumps that say "Super". Yep. Meet me at that giant Exxon sign, that brings this fair city light... or whatever.
