I know I rarely enter this domain but I found a book today that I must try and read!

Abraham Lincoln's mother is killed by a vampire so young Abe is on a mission to find that blood thirsty vampire so he can cut off his head!

Weird shit man, and you guys think I write insanely. LOL!

I used to love to read, but as an English Major I burnt out on reading.

Besides, my ADD brain can't sit down on a couch for an hour and just READ!

I need to ROCK instead!

Sounds like Juvenile or YA fiction. new_thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Want Lincoln? Read "Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase For Lincoln's Killer" by James Swanson. It's history that reads like a thriller. I tore through it in two days and want to read it again.

Maybe you are right? I haven't a clue. All of that "Twilight" crap has put the whole "vampire" genre back on the corporate map.

I read the first 20 pages. Don't really know what to expect. Could be a waste of time.

I tried to read King's "Under The Dome" and I failed. Couldn't make it out of the 4th chapter.

Some people aren't born to read. I'm one of them.

You're not much of a reader, but you were an English Major? laugh.gif

Yeah, that ridiculous "Twilight" phenomenon has driven publishers to rush more vampire stories to print - especially YA vampire novels. Twenty pages in now, you should be able to tell if the book was meant for adults or young adults.

It's meant for adults, it's by the same dude who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

laugh.gif You have an excellent memory Rulz! Being an English Major at St. Mary's College is the reason why I burnt out on reading. Not only did I have to take all of those English Courses but at St. Mary's they made you take a ton of electives that was mostly based on READING.

Also this college had a "Jan Term." Where you are able to take one course only for one month. It was sort of a break yet these Jan Terms also consisted of too much reading!

I was working at Safeway full time as well.

Honestly I can't believe I graduated. I was an eight year college student though living the good life.

Rushhead, read this.

I guarantee you'll like it and won't stop reading it. I'm completely serious. It reads like a manual [which is it's intention] but also has some historical accounts (although they're fictional of course)

That book looks awesome Blaze!!  I am on it.

Looks like a book out of the EVIL DEAD movies!!

That sword should be a chainsaw!!  laugh.gif

Love,

Bruce Campbell

This book could EASILY be a movie.

The book covers various topics in the zombie world such as weaponry, housing, fighting one or more than one, the elements, clothing, etc.

As I told my friends before in past zombie discussions (AND as this book confirms), CROWBARS are the way to go! 1022.gif

That is cool. I never thought about a crowbar taking off a zombie head before.

I always thought you needed a gun or a big ass knife to remove the head.

You never know when Heaven and Hell will be filled with the dead.

Maybe zombies will walk the earth in 2012.

Crowbar. check.

Double barreled shotgun. Check.

Ammo. check.

Hunting knife. check.

Radio. check.

Fresh batteries. check.

Bottled water and canned food. check.

Hot wife with no flesh wounds. check.

Yes they do, crowbars are helpful for a lot of things. I bought mine to keep the tradition of always buying a random object (usually something that can be used as a weapon) when priest_of_syrinx and I go on an adventure around town

Why? It's just a book. If it's not enjoyable then don't finish it. It's like finishing a terrible movie. Just turn the damn set off or walk out. Don't regret it later and say, "Man, why the hell did I sit [and watch/read] through that?"

A few years back, MANY folks were raving about Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code [whether it had something to do with the movie is neither here nor there] so I decided to read it. After a few chapters into it, I felt like I was just trying to hang on. But I wanted to stick it out and finish it. Well, I did finish it but I don't feel any better for it. Something as enjoyable as reading can be shouldn't have to be endured.

You are 1000% correct Blaze.

I turn off shitty movies all the time.

If it doesn't do anything for me through the second chapter I am done.

So far it's all about Abe as a young boy.

I totally agree. (Although I liked the Da Vinci Code! tongue.gif ) If the book doesn't hold my interest, I drop it and move on to something else. There's a lot of books and only so much time. I'm not going to waste my time on something that doesn't grab me; I'll find something that does.

On the other hand, I wonder how many good books I've missed out on over the years, because I think I might drop them too quickly. After all, it takes about 100 pages - or maybe the first quarter of a book - to establish the characters, setting, and what the central conflict of the story will be. It may be a little ruthless of me to say, "Nope, it's not grabbing me right away. Bye!"

Yeah, it's not like I'm tossing book out after a dozen pages and deeming, "Geez, this is crap!" tongue.gif

The Da Vinci Code felt like an adult version of some Hardy Boys mystery with extra supreme layers of pretentiousness. To me it read like Dan Brown was showing off all the shit that he researched.
