Warning!!! Scottish prog!!!

vjAdtr2.gif

The second (2019) album from Grand Tour sounds very much like the old Abel Ganz in their prime. Hew Montgomery (and some members from Comedy of Errors) transfered the Abel Ganz sound of the mid-eighties, and early nineties, straight into the now. Great hybrid.

Their debut from 2015 isn't shabby too.

Glad that Scotland still has this incredible prog scene!

This is a really diverse list of rock/metal- some of it is less modern than others, but all of these bands are at least active

Thank You Scientist (some cool jazz-fusion prog metal. If Coheed and Cambria had a baby with Snarky Puppy, if you will)

Bent Knee (their singer has a very unique voice, she really makes the songs imo. A really cool art rock/prog rock band)

Haken (fun, slightly zany prog rock)

Tesseract (Some "djent- if you use such terminology)

Shokran (Some fun progressive metal core with really well integrated screams/cleans)

Oceans of Slumber (I am more of a fan of their covers (ex. Nights in White Satin) but it is female fronted progressive doom metal)

Lies And Butterflies, the new album from Mystery is absolutely fabulous. Great sound, lots of atmosphere, a fine sense for melodies (the guitar work is fukkin' incredible) and much more can be found on this album. Best prog release 2018!!!

There's a lot to like here (guitar work and drumming stand out). There's an underlying current of corny though that saps the energy and dulls any edginess from those tracks.

Windom End seems to be making the rounds lately. I've heard a little bit by them and while it sounded good I don't think it's anything that hasn't been done before and much better. They are sort of like Flower Kings Jr.

Keeping true to recent posts on prog, Lonely Robot have a new album "A Model Life".  There's a few youtube lyrics videos available.  I've been avoiding listening to any of them, about to give the album its first spin.

**update -- have managed a few times through on the album, so far I'm enjoying it.  Noting some repetition or themes from prior albums/songs (I'm giving benefit of the doubt to call them 'themes').  The one issue is certain ear piercing frequencies at very specific times with the vocals, almost like something he was using to increase presence is over hyping some upper frequencies in his vocals.  I only have my free Amazon MP3 right now, but once the disc finally arrives I will be EQ'ing that flaw out as best I can.

2022 might be too ancient to be classified as "new" but Epigone by Wilderun is an absolute TREAT for those who enjoy progressive death metal with swelling orchestral elements! There are also softer moments without growls (such as the opener Exhaler) Honestly, anything by Wilderun is worth checking out. Am I biased because they are probably my favorite modern band, I have seen them live twice AND I have met the members for radio purposes? Maybe.
