Who are the most influential people

I don't know anything about the people who operate roadrunner records but I think any label that has DT, PT and Opeth on its roster deserves a mention in this thread.

Any other records companies loaded with Prog? Radiant Records?

Inside Out record Label.. an almost purely Progressive Rock label artists like.

IQ, Frost*, Asia*, Ayeron, Riverside, Kings X, Kaipa, Spock's Beard, Symphony X, Fates Warning, James La Brie solo, Dominici...etc.

good call!

Magna Carta releases a lot of good prog too, including the liquid tension experiment.

Transatlantic puts some progressive giants all on one album. If you want to hear the current face of prog you must own The Whirlwind. yes.gif

I need time changes for my bunghole!

I was re-reading Charlie and the Great Glass elevator 2 nights ago and while reading the ingredients that make up Wonka-Vite ( an age reversing pill ),

I noted that it included " the snout of a proghopper ". 1022.gif

not sure how many will agree but I want to mention Les Claypool. I heard he's a huge fan of Rush and was influenced by Peter Gabriel, Chris Squire as well as Geddy. plus he's pretty much invented his own genre of music (artsy folk metal??)!! doesn't get much more prog than that! lol

I think they are the top 3 also in modern prog

I would say rush and dream theater, but mostly rush since dt was influenced by them. It seems there are an aweful lot of bands since them in the prog genre that either admit to being influenced or deny the influence but "happen to sound like them". rofl3.gif

Bring on the DT tomatos! 1287.gif

They're not my favorite band, but I can't see people NOT being influenced by Portnoy. Pretty amazing player.

yeah, thomas is out of the band.

I don't have any of them but Omar put out a ridiculous amount of solo records last year too.
