Gingers...

My sister in law has recently become anti-redhead and has some really nasty things to say about them. I asked her why she felt that way and her less than thoughtful answer was "I don't know, redheads just suck". I told her thet I thought it was an irrational prejudice much like racism and she just gave me a funny look. I asked her if her friends all felt that way and she said "oh yeah!" So it seems to me that hating redheads must be the trendy thing to do in certain circles as my sister in law is definitely a slave to trends (and if you ask me she's getting to be a little old to still be that way, but I digress).

As for the hate, it is disturbing. And "ginger"? Is that really any different than the N-word for an African-American person?

In fact, it has the exact same letters as that N-word, just rearranged.

It never ceases to amaze how the prejudiced part of human nature never changes.

It is an extremely bizarre and irrational prejudice.

Not that I am excusing any kind of bigotry, but you'll find most people who claim to hate, say, blacks or Hispanics or Martians or whoever generally base their hatred on what they perceive to be cultural shortcomings, shall we say.

But there is no "redhead culture". It's just a hair color. confused13.gif

I've heard it is quite the latest thing over here to say unkind things about people with ginger hair. I've even heard colleagues making disparaging remarks which I really don't understand. wtf.gif

A schoolfriend had beautiful ginger hair that would have gone very nicely with my green eyes, and I have a bit of a thing about red or ginger blokes. Damian Lewis, for example....

On terminology, my ginger friend says he's ginger, not red - probably because the colour of his hair is more ginger than red.

I am a redhead and I have never been made fun of because of my hair. All my life, It has been consistently the one physical feature both men and women compliment me on. I can't imagine having any other color - red matches my personality to a T.

I know no one here listens to Bruce Springsteen, but he said it best

Brunettes are smart and Blondes have more fun

But it takes a RED HEAD to git the dirty work done

Oddly enough, my top celeb crush of 7 years, McAdams, changed her blonde hair to red a month ago.

This thread wouldn't be complete without some pictures of Simone Simons.
