Maverick Posted June 2, 2011 Share Posted June 2, 2011 As a huge fan of their musical prowess, but not a huge fan of the death growling, I am very intrigued by these spoilers. Although I have heard from others that this new album would be growl-free. This just further confirms it. You have to wonder, though, if Arkerfeldt has been bored with growling/death metal for so long, why did it take so long for him to change? Pressure from the record company to write and record that way? A little "This is what Opeth is, and this is what the fans expect" pressure? The Growling is what kept me away from Opeth ( as well as other bands like BTBAM and Mastodon) for so long, but I admit I they did grow on me after a while... but still, I won't be sad to see them gone... Now I am ok with it, borderline appreciating it. But I won't be sad at all if he drops it in the future recordings. There are what, ten albums of it (well 9 because Damnation is all clean.)
