Question For Apple Users

i currently have an HP and have never had a problem downloading freeo music and copying to a media player. Does anyone have any experience downloading free music with a macbook or apple computer??? is it done basically the same way as with the HP???

Reason I ask is because I might buy an apple computer for a family member.

It depends on how you're doing it. I'm pretty sure you can use BitTorrent on a Mac. If you're using LimeWire or Kazaa...well, you shouldn't be using those anyways because they're a massive security risk to your computer (so is BitTorrent, to a lesser extent).

If the music files are in WMA format, you may need to convert them to MP3, AAC, or WAV files as well.

/Not that I endorse copyright violations or anything...

Limewire

Limewire always screwed with my Mac real bad.

you mean it's pretty easy for limewire to mess up computers?

i remember using it on my dell about 5 years ago but don't remember getting any problems from limewire.

I've had Limewire on my Mac Book pro for as long as I've had my Mac.

No problems... EVER.

Guess it depends on your Limewire setting, perhaps?

well, I never paid for it so that's probably causing some issues (or used to when I used it). It would freeze my computer up, causing me to force-restart. This was on an older imac desktop so maybe the macs now are more stable.

But also, I find it's now full of spam. Instead of getting song title results, I would get porn confused13.gif Even if the song had nothing suggestive about it.

My music DL'ing days are done anyhow.

Buy your music.

Ditto. Downloading music illegaly is stealing.

Internet service providers are begining to cooperate with authorities to find those that are downloading. In the past, they focused on those providing illegal music. Downloaders are next.

Regardless of the operating system, leave the torrents off.

Downloaders have been the main target for a few years now, and that's starting to end (too many innocent people got extorted by the RIAA's lawyers, it made for bad PR). The newer target is getting ISPs to simply block or slow down all BitTorrent traffic, including the legit stuff.

I still buy most of my music, but only because I like having the physical copy. The RIAA's tactics killed any moral objections I had to downloading long ago.
