GeddyLeeRoth
'Heavy Metal' was a term more loosely used until the NWOBHM in the late seventies/early eighties helped solidify the parameters of pure metal. A lot of hard rock bands like Zep, VH, KISS, AC/DC and Rush were often referred to as heavy metal. So with that being said, I will leave out these titans, even if they do have deep roots in the beginnings of metal. My favorite metal bands: 1. Iron Maiden 2. Slayer 3. Metallica 4. Black Sabbath 5. Ozzy (sorry, not the same as Sab) 6. Pantera 7. Exodus 8. Megadeth 9. Black Label Society 10. Judas Priest 11. Anthrax (Joey Era) 12. Sepultura (Max Era) 13. Motley Crue 14. Motor Head 15. Morbid Angel

Xanadu Princess
QUOTE (Sonatine @ Feb 18 2010, 01:22 PM)Oh, and you have another 5 bands to choose from too (top 15 see) I was kinda puzzled why everyone's list contained more than ten bands - I don't know where I got the ten from, cos I knew it said in the thread title fifteen TWICE - yup Dim is my middle name I shall go away and think of another five - some of my other favs aren't really metal, more like heavy/hard rock, so that might have to do. RUSHHEAD666
QUOTE (naturalsciences101 @ May 31 2009, 12:08 PM)I want to know if there is some sorta concensus on who are the Top Fifteen (15) Metal bands of All Time. I was going to say, Top Ten Hard Rock/Heavy Metal...but, I'm not gonna swing down that particular corridor. That's too broad a term, and not enough selections allotted. Ten is too few a number, and Twenty is to large to discern anything from the results. When you consider just how many amazing Metal bands there are out there, the task is quite difficult. So, I ask you - - Which groups are the Top Fifteen Metal bands of All Time? You can use your own knowledge of what the term 'Heavy Metal' means to you when comprising your list of Fifteen bands. There have been quite a number of 'borderline' bands who are acceptable to some folks and not acceptable to others when considering which groups fall underneath that umbrella term - 'Heavy Metal'. Bands like Guns n' Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Rage Against The Machine, Kiss, Deep Purple, Creed are the type and range of bands which might be considered as 'borderline' groups. You can include them if you like them enough, PLUS, feel that they truly encompass the term. Three of my selections were choosen because they best represent a whole sub-genre of Metal that I really like. And, your list of bands doesn't necessarily need to be in any specific order. The more you like the genre of Metal, the more difficult it will be for you to cull the herd down to only 15 selections. Try to be objective. Which groups do you think are the 'best' 15? Inevitably, you will have to cull some key selections and leave out some definite favs. 15 Best Metal Bands of All Time Testament Exodus Iced Earth Ozzy Osbourne Megadeth Candlemass Black Sabbath Mastodon Death Pantera Judas Priest Metallica Iron Maiden DIO Dream Theater If we get enough lists from users here, maybe later we can see if we're able to put the users' favourites in some type of numerical order. Hey speaking of this thread, what the heck ever happened to Naturalsciences101? I never saw his little "nickname" below his avatar. That is one of the funniest things I have ever read: "Narcissistic Anal Fissure" Sounds like a great name for my future band.
