Jeez, is all this really prog?  confused13.gif  Where's Prog Rap?  confused13.gif

i know you're trying to be comical, but Pain of Salvation has some rapping in some of their songs. so it does technically exist.

I voted Symphonic Prog, because that is what I keep coming back to. Lately I have been getting into Canterbury (Gong), Krautrock (Ash Ra Tempel), and Zeuhl (Magma).

In terms of Krautrock, are you familiar with Can, Amon Duul II, Faust, Neu!, Popol Vuh, early Kraftwerk & Tangerine Dream, Guru Guru, Agitation Free, etc.? If not, I can recommend some titles...

Yeah, "Spitfall" was a great track.

Pretty tough to choose, I would say heavy Prog, but I love a lot of these genres, and a couple I hate.

The problem with these subdivisions (for lack of better word) is that bands like Tull did more than just folk-prog. Thick as a Brick through Minstrel certainly weren't only folk. They didn't go full-on folk-prog until Songs From the Wood. Yet, they get categorized in that sub-genre.

I like just about every one of these for different reasons. As soon as I decided to pick one, I'd remember a band that I like that had another style. Can't pin it down to just one. How about good prog?

I see it too.

Symphonic Prog, don't think the name fits the bands in quotations, but whatever Yes is is my favorite subgenre..

Heavy Prog. But I think Tool belongs in that category or Prog Metal. Calling them experimental? Nope. Godspeed You Black Emperor is that.

ProgArchives has lost it's appeal. It was much better two years ago. They are commercializing.

What's Canterburry?

What's Faviorate?

Why lump Psychedelic with Space Rock?

Why mention Opeth? They are straight ahead Heavy Metal.

They might be Metal but they aren't "straight ahead" anything. wink.gif
